Abstract

ABSTRACT One of activity that is very disturbing is the habit of illegally cutting down trees in forest areas which occurs around the tourist area of Batulapisi hamlet, Malino Village, Tinggimoncong District, Gowa Regency. Apart from that, much of the waste resulting from cleaning fruit and vegetables is not used and is wasted. Based on this problem, the multi-disciplinary service team, namely Forestry, Agriculture and Medicine, saw the need for early education for children. The step taken to overcome this problem is to prepare the next generation who really understands the environment and health through education from an early age. Partners in this service activity are Kaori Kindergarten and Nurun Nisa' TPA in the Batu Lapisi Tourism Area. Partners have limited knowledge regarding the environment, organic waste management and the dangers of smoking as they often campaign to their students. Therefore, the service team aims to provide knowledge transfer related to how to protect the environment and skills in processing organic waste into liquid fertilizer considering that in this area there is quite a lot of organic waste left over from processing vegetables and fruit as well as health education regarding the dangers of smoking from an early age and initiation. establishment of UKS at Kaori Kindergarten. This activity is carried out using lecture and interactive discussion methods. Through this series of activities, partners are expected to be able to preserve forest areas by not cutting down trees and also spreading the word through posters and booklets. Apart from that, partners are also expected to be able to produce liquid fertilizer independently or make it on a large scale so that they can obtain added economic value from this activity and have knowledge of how to maintain health from an early age. Abstract

Magnesium (Mg) is an essential mineral that plays a role in many organ functions, including the kidneys. Magnesium has roles in regulating mitochondrial function, inflammatory processes, immune defenses, heart excitability, and blood pressure. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) can disrupt Mg balance and can have an impact on the progression and prognosis of CKD. This study aimed to analyze Mg levels as a prognostic marker for CKD. This was a descriptive retrospective study with a cross-sectional approach. The total sample consisted of 136 subjects with CKD patients, comprising stage I (n=3), stage II (n=2), stage III (n=11), stage IV (n=26), and stage V (n=94) based on the KDIGO classification. According to KDIGO, they were categorized as low risk (n=5), moderate risk (n=11), and high risk (n=120). Magnesium levels were assessed using the colorimetric method. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 25, including the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, a Kruskal-Wallis test, the least significant difference, and Spearman's correlation test. The cut-off point was determined using the ROC curve. Results were considered statistically significant if p< 0.05. This study demonstrated a significant positive correlation between eGFR values and Mg levels falling into the moderate category (0.2250<R<0.500). Characteristics of research subjects showed that the lowest Mg levels (1.81) were found in high risk prognosis (p<0.001) and stage 5 CKD (1.72) (p<0.001). The optimal cut-off point for Mg levels in CKD patients was 2.40 mg/dL, with a sensitivity of 76% and specificity of 69%. Magnesium levels can be used as a prognostic marker for CKD.

Abstract

Hypoalbuminemia and hyperuricemia are associated with the occurrence of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), leading to increased mortality. Epidemiological studies have shown that AKI is related to disease severity, mortality, period of stay in the intensive care unit, and prolonged use of mechanical ventilation. This study aimed to analyze the uric acid-albumin ratio in AKI. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using secondary data from subjects diagnosed with AKI and treated at the Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar for four and a half years from January 2019 to July 2023. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney, and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) tests. A total of 93 subjects with an average age of 56.4+15.6 were included in the study, with a higher percentage of males, 63.4% (59). The mean uric acid/albumin ratio was higher in AKI stage 3 = 3.17 compared to stages 1 and 2, with a significant value of p=0.866. The mean uric acid/albumin ratio was higher in AKI patients who died = 4.46, compared to those who recovered, with a significant value of p<0.001. There was a considerable correlation between uric acid/albumin ratio and outcome AKI (p<0.001) with strong correlation strength. Value uric acid/albumin comparison with AKI (p<0.001) strong category (r=0.842). Based on the ROC curve coordinate values uric acid/albumin ratio, a cut-off > 2.79 was obtained for the AKI who died and < 2.79 for the outcome AKI who recovered, with sensitivity of 97.7% and specificity of 91.6%. There was a significant correlation between the uric acid/albumin ratio and the outcome of AKI, with high correlation strength. However, no statistically significant correlation was found between the uric acid/albumin ratio and the AKI stage.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) often face health problems such as overcrowding, poor sanitation, and low awareness of clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS). This community service program aimed to improve students’ knowledge and skills in managing health at Pondok Pesantren Alam Indonesia, Barru Regency, through a Training of Trainer (ToT) approach. The program, conducted by the Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University, involved 52 students from junior and vocational levels. Activities included lectures, group discussions, practical sessions, and knowledge tests with 40 questions. Results showed that most students achieved good (34.62%) and fair (30.77%) knowledge levels and improved healthy habits such as eating fruits and vegetables, drinking enough water, and exercising regularly. The program effectively increased students’ awareness and skills in health management and strengthened cooperation between the pesantren and the local government.
