Language is not only a tool for communication but also a mirror of cultural values, as seen in forms such as proverbs, poems, short stories, and especially jokes. Humour, in particular, often relies on shared cultural understanding, making cultural context essential for interpretation. In the field of pragmatics, jokes can be analysed through Gricean conversational maxims, where intentionally flouting these maxims creates a comedic effect. This study investigates how Rudy Ayoub uses humour in his sketches depicting father-son relationships within Arabian parenting culture. By transcribing and coding selected video excerpts, this research applies pragmatic analysis to examine the strategies behind Rudy’s jokes and the role of cultural norms in shaping them. The findings reveal that Rudy most frequently flouts the maxim to produce humour by exaggerating the inconsistencies and unpredictability of his father’s expressions of affection—sometimes warm, sometimes distant. These jokes not only entertain but also reflect underlying values in Arabian parenting, highlighting the emotional complexity and social expectations within the family. This study underscores that humour is not merely a linguistic play but a culturally grounded phenomenon, where pragmatic strategies and societal norms intersect to create laughter and insight. By analysing Rudy’s sketches, the research offers a vivid example of how culture and conversational pragmatics work together in modern comedic expression.

Skill and strategy are essential in persuasion. By implementing appropriate strategy and having a good speaking skill can make someone be a good persuader. Successful persuasion can even move other people to do almost anything. Studying persuasion is under the notion of pragmatics since pragmatics studies the use of language in certain context, in this case the context is persuasive attempt. Atsu, the famous Genshin Impact content creator, implement the hope theory in persuade his viewers to keep wishing. This theory is an appropriate strategy since in Genshin Impact, players need to spend game resource even money if they want to maximize the character and weapon’s potential through wishing. This system is so-called gacha; in gacha games, the players do not know exactly what they get. thus Atsu kept giving hope to the viewers that they will get the rewards after spending much resources or money. This strategy is shown to be successful since Atsu, most of the time, was successfully delivered his persuasive attempt. The data was taken from the videos uploaded in his YouTube account under the name of AsianGuyStream. The data was stored by screenshotting the persuasive expression and analyse them using hope theory and visual aids.

Iklan merupakan bagian dari komunikasi karena iklan merupakan proses penyampaian pesan. Iklan berusaha untuk memberikan informasi, membujuk, meyakinkan dan menyampaikan suatu gagasan atau ideologi kepada khalayak. Bibit melalui iklan versi “Suara Hati Generasi Sandwich” menyampaikan pesan melalui seperangkat tanda yang digunakan dalam membangun jalan cerita iklan untuk menarik atensi khalayak. Untuk itu tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pesan atau ideologi yang dimuat dalam iklan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data ialah semiotika Roland Barthes dengan mengidentifikasi makna denotasi, konotasi dan mitos. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan tiga mitos utama yakni: 1) produk Bibit dapat memberikan kemakmuran bagi penggunanya; 2) generasi sandwich dimaknai sebagai generasi yang mengalami masalah keuangan; 3) rajin berinvestasi atau menabung dipercaya dapat terbebas dari masalah keuangan di masa depan. Ideologi patriarki juga ditemukan dalam iklan ini yang digambarkan melalui karakter atau tokoh dalam iklan.

Arsip masih seringkali menjadi hal yang luput dari perhatian. Selama magang di PT Triputra Agro Persada, ditemukan bahwa dokumen hanya diletakkan secara tidak beraturan pada lemari arsip meskipun perusahaan memiliki sistem pengarsipan yang berdasarkan tahun dan nama vendor; namun pada departemen procurement, sistem ini tidak dijalankan dengan baik. Masih ditemukan dokumen yang tersimpan pada tahun yang salah atau tidak diletakkan sesuai dengan nama vendor. Hal ini menjadi penyebab pekerjaan di departemen procurement menjadi terhambat karena kesulitan mencari dan menemukan dokumen yang sudah tersimpan pada ruang arsip. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode kualitatif yaitu dengan cara melakukan obervasi, terlibat langsung dalam proses, dan wawancara untuk menemukan akar masalah. Dari proses observasi, keterlibatan langsung, dan wawancara ditemukan bahwa sistem pengarsipan tidak berjalan dengan baik karena setiap personel memiliki beban kerja yang tinggi sehingga tidak memiliki waktu untuk bertanya kepada rekan terkait sistem pengarsipan. Hal lain yang ditemukan adalah tidak adanya tata cara yang secara tertulis diberitahukan kepada setiap orang di departemen procurement. Untuk itu, pemecahan masalah yang diambil adalah melakukan pencetakan terhadap tata cara pengarsipan yang ditempel pada kabinet untuk dibaca dan diterapkan oleh setiap orang yang akan menyimpan dokumen. Sosialisasi juga dilakukan agar secara lisan sistem ini diketahui. Dari pemecahan masalah tersebut, ditemukan bahwa pekerjaan di departemen procurement menjadi lebih efektif terutama yang terkait dengan pencarian dokumen.
