Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan dan kreativitas anak muda dalam bidang fashion melalui pelatihan komprehensif yang mencakup keterampilan menjahit, inovasi desain busana, serta pemasaran digital. Pusat Pengembangan Anak (PPA) ID 0431 GPdI Yerusalem Baru di Kota Jayapura, menjadi lokasi kegiatan di mana anak muda yang berada dikelas tata busana mendapatkan pelatihan yang lebih mendalam. Permasalahan yang dihadapi di PPA adalah keterbatasan dalam keterampilan teknis menjahit, kurangnya inovasi dalam menciptakan desain yang kompetitif. Oleh karena itu, pendekatan yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini melibatkan pelatihan menjahit dari dasar, pengembangan inovasi dalam desain, serta strategi pemasaran melalui media sosial dan marketplace. Dengan pengabdian ini diharapkan dapat meningkatan keterampilan peserta dalam menghasilkan produk fashion yang inovatif dan bernilai jual. Dengan pelatihan dan pendampingan yang terstruktur, pengabdian ini dapat memberikan solusi jangka panjang untuk meningkatkan kemandirian ekonomi anak muda, serta memperluas akses mereka terhadap pasar fashion modern yang semakin kompetitif.

Abstract

Sentani is a region rich in cultural traditions and local wisdom that continue to be preserved, one of which is the Mako-Mako tradition, a communal eating practice uniquely carried out by children aged 7 to 13 along the lakeshore or upstream areas of rivers. This tradition not only persists amid modernization and technological development but also embodies important values, including togetherness, environmental awareness, and conflict-resolution skills. However, in the era of globalization, local cultural values are increasingly marginalized, particularly in early childhood education. This community service program aimed to develop learning media in the form of songs based on the Mako-Mako tradition and to train early childhood teachers in their use for character education at PAUD Melody Kids. The program employed a participatory approach consisting of three main stages: the creation of songs incorporating values derived from the Mako-Mako tradition, teacher training on the use of the songs as learning media, and the integration of the songs into character education activities. The results indicated that the Mako-Mako tradition-based songs provided an engaging and contextual learning medium for introducing local cultural values to children. The training also enhanced teachers’ understanding and ability to incorporate songs into character education activities. This approach has implications for strengthening culturally responsive early childhood education and supporting the preservation of local wisdom through creative and child-friendly learning media.

Abstract

Lake Sentani is a freshwater ecosystem of significant ecological and socio-cultural value to the people of Papua; however, the sustainability of its biodiversity faces pressure from habitat degradation and the presence of introduced fish species. This study aims to reconstruct ecological knowledge embedded in the bhukere practice as a source of ecological literacy, develop a bhukere-based fish puppet theater to introduce the biodiversity of Lake Sentani, and identify children's responses to this medium. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method with a descriptive qualitative approach, encompassing stages of exploration, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and product refinement. The research subjects consisted of 58 children aged 4–5 years from two early childhood education centers in Waena Urban Village, Jayapura City. The developed product is a puppet theater performance titled Niko and Bhukere, which integrates local fish characters, ecological narratives, music, children's songs, and bhukere props made from natural materials and inorganic waste. The results indicate that the performance achieved a positive attention level of 85.4%, an increase in biodiversity understanding from 48.3% to 88.4%, a positive affective response of 88.4%, and a conservation behavior rate of 82.8%. These findings demonstrate that bhukere based fish puppet theater holds pedagogical potential as a medium for ecological literacy that is contextual, participatory, and grounded in local culture. Integrating community ecological knowledge, Lake Sentani's biodiversity, and performing arts offers an innovative strategy for fostering ecological awareness and concern among early childhood learners.
