Abstract

The ecological crisis, characterized by deforestation, environmental pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change, has become a serious challenge to the sustainability of human life, including in Indonesia. Although Islamic ecotheological studies have developed considerably, most existing research has focused on Qur'anic perspectives, while the ecotheological dimensions embedded in the Prophetic traditions (hadith) have received relatively limited systematic attention and contextualization in relation to contemporary environmental issues. This study aims to examine the ecological values contained in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad and their relevance to addressing Indonesia's environmental crisis. Employing a qualitative approach based on library research, the study draws upon classical hadith collections and relevant secondary sources. The data are analyzed using thematic analysis within the framework of Islamic ecotheology. Particular attention is given to hadiths concerning land management, tree planting, animal welfare, environmental conservation, and the responsible use of natural resources. The findings reveal that the Prophetic traditions embody a comprehensive ecological ethic that positions humans as khalīfah entrusted with maintaining the balance and sustainability of ecosystems. This study offers a hadith-based ecotheological perspective that broadens the discourse of Islamic ecotheology, which has thus far been predominantly centered on the Qur'an. The findings not only enrich contemporary hadith studies but also provide an ethical foundation for strengthening environmental education and fostering ecological awareness among Muslim communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to correct the distorted understanding of the concept of jihad having often been misinterpreted textually by radical groups legitimizing violence through hadiths of istishhād (reports concerning martyrdom through suicide operations). Using the Ma’āni al-Ḥadīth approach, this research explores the semantic and linguistic structure of the hadiths, their historical context (asbāb al-wurūd), and their contemporary social relevance. The study employs a qualitative library research method, supported by interviews with two former terrorism convicts, Ali Imron and Khairul Ghazali, to reveal the ideological framework behind radical interpretations of jihad and istishhād. The findings reveal that the distortion of jihad stems from a rigid textual-literal approach neglecting the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-syarī’ah) and the socio-historical context of the prophetic traditions. In fact, jihad in the hadith perspective extends beyond physical warfare (qitāl) to encompass moral, social, and humanitarian struggles promoting justice and peace. Using the Ma’āni al-Ḥadīth approach, this research underlines the need for a comprehensive reconstruction of jihad interpretation, the one avoiding extremist readings and restoring its true essence as an ethical struggle for the well-being of humanity.

Abstract

The gig economy phenomenon, a digital platform-based work model, has transformed conventional employment relations, particularly in terms of flexibility, job security, and protection of employment rights. While this system provides new economic opportunities, it also presents ethical issues, particularly related to wage equity, unequal bargaining power, and the potential for worker exploitation. This article aims to analyze the gig economy phenomenon through the perspective of the Prophet's hadith, focusing on the principles of work and wage equity. This study uses a qualitative approach with a thematic study (mauḍū’ī) approach, collecting and reviewing hadiths related to work values, moral responsibility, the fulfillment of workers' rights, and the prohibition of injustice in any form. The analysis is conducted by contextualizing the normative messages of the hadith into gig economy work practices. The study results show that the Prophet's hadith emphasize the importance of clear employment contracts, wage adequacy, timely payment, and the rejection of exploitative practices in employment relationships. These principles form the basis for ethical criticism of gig economy practices that have the potential to harm workers, while also offering a normative framework for establishing fairer and more humane employment relations.
