Abstract

The phenomenon of social media has introduced new dynamics in the development of the Arabic language, particularly in relation to shifts in vocabulary meanings influenced by cross-cultural interaction, digital technology, and online communication practices. This study aimed to examine meaning shifts in Arabic as used on social media through a cultural-semantic approach. The research focused on identifying vocabulary items that underwent semantic change, whether through narrowing, broadening, or connotative shifts, and on analyzing the cultural factors underlying these changes. The study employed a qualitative method using a cultural-semantic framework, with data drawn from utterances, posts, and conversations circulating on popular platforms such as Twitter (X), Instagram, and TikTok. The findings indicate that semantic shifts in Arabic social media emerge through complex interactions among linguistic, social, and cultural dimensions. Based on Cruse’s theory of semantics, most meaning changes occur at the level of sense relations, primarily through mechanisms such as broadening, narrowing, and metaphorical extension. For instance, the word متابع (mutābi‘), which lexically means “follower,” has undergone narrowing to specifically denote a “social media follower” in the digital context. From Duranti’s perspective of cultural semantics, these shifts are not merely linguistic phenomena but also reflect processes of identity formation and value negotiation within Arab digital communication culture. Each term that experienced semantic change embodies the dynamics of digital life, reflecting values such as ijtima‘iyyah (social connectedness), shuhrah (popularity), and ta‘bīr dhāti (self-expression).

Abstract

This research aims to determine the historical development of philosophy and science as well as the transintegration of internal science from a philosophical perspective using the literature study method. Philosophy is considered to be the mother of science and is considered to be the first and last science which logically requires that other sciences be mastered, so that to understand philosophy one must also master other sciences, therefore philosophy can be transintegrated with various other sciences. In fact, to achieve true truth is knowledge. How philosophy can establish the transintegration of knowledge from various perspectives, one of which is history. To obtain the truth of philosophy when viewed from history. Human society, culture and the natural environment have a close relationship and are interconnected. This is what has structured and filled the history of philosophy with the various characteristics it carries and is inherent in. Based on these four things, philosophers generally divide philosophy into 4 (four) major traditions, namely Indian, Chinese, Islamic and Western philosophy. These 4 (four) great philosophical traditions gave birth to modern philosophy which then gave birth to the transintegration of science. Truth in philosophy and science is the truth of reason. Meanwhile, truth in religion is revelation. Thus, if philosophy, science and religion are united, there will be a transintegration of sophisticated and modern knowledge.

Abstract

Lacak is one of the unique cultural heritages of the Malay people of Jambi, possessing high historical and philosophical value. Its existence is not only a symbol of regional pride, but also reflects the identity of the Malay people, who uphold the values of honor and wisdom. However, amid the tide of modernization and changing lifestyles among the younger generation, interest in learning about and preserving traditional cultures such as lacak is declining. Based on these issues, a team of lecturers from the University of Jambi carried out a community service activity with the theme “Preservation of Lacak as a Cultural Heritage of the Malay People of Jambi” which was held on October 4, 2025, in Teluk Village, Pemayung District, Batanghari Regency. This activity included training in making lacak, guided by Jambi cultural expert Zainul Bahri, and attended by local school children and teenagers. In addition to the training, a cultural quiz was held on lacak and historical figures of Jambi, such as Sultan Thaha Saifuddin and Raden Mattaher. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge about the meaning and form of lacak, as well as a growing enthusiasm for preserving local culture. This activity successfully served as an educational and recreational means of strengthening the cultural identity of the Teluk Village community.ABSTRAKLacak merupakan salah satu warisan budaya khas Melayu Jambi yang memiliki nilai historis dan filosofis tinggi. Abstract

Lacak is a local wisdom of the Malay community in Jambi that functions as a head covering for men in traditional clothing. This cultural heritage has a philosophical meaning that reflects noble values such as responsibility, honor, and determination. However, in Teluk Village, Batang Hari Regency, the interest and understanding of the younger generation towards Lacak has declined due to the influence of globalization and low local cultural literacy. This study aims to (1) identify the character values contained in the shape, folds, and function of Lacak according to the local wisdom of the Teluk Village community, and (2) formulate strategies for preserving Lacak as a medium for character education for the younger generation. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through participatory observation, interviews with traditional leaders and educators, and review of traditional documents. The analysis was conducted using a symbolic-philosophical approach to interpret the meaning of character values in Lacak. The results of the study show that Lacak Melayu Jambi contains three main values, namely craftsmanship (neatness), authority (honor), and determination (responsibility). Effective preservation strategies include integrating Lacak values into school extracurricular activities, establishing youth clubs, and fostering collaboration between schools and local Malay Customary Institutions. In this way, Lacak can serve as a medium for character education that fosters pride in cultural identity and strengthens the character of the younger generation in Jambi;ABSTRAKLacak merupakan kearifan lokal masyarakat Melayu Jambi yang berfungsi sebagai penutup kepala pria dalam pakaian adat.
