Abstract

The existence of the Katingan Botanical Garden which will collect various plants (fruits, orchids, and various types of forest vegetation typical of Kalimantan) will be utilized and developed for research, education, cultivation, conservation, tourism, and environmental services. This study aims to analyze the diversity and reveal the rarity status of plant species in the Katingan Botanical Garden area, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. The method used to collect vegetation data is the plot method in the form of quadratic transects. The size of the observation plot transect is 20 m x 500 m with 2 (two) transects. The research object is seedling, sapling, pole, and tree-stage vegetation. The composition of vegetation species found in the community unit (2,0 ha) is 28 species belonging to 17 tribes, in this, there are 2 individuals that have not been identified. Akasia (Acacia mangium), Tumih (Cambretocarpus rotundatus), and Gerunggang (Cratoxylum arborescent BI.) dominated at all growth stages. The biodiversity indices (diversity, richness, and evenness indices) are classified as medium, low, and high, respectively. There are 3 (three) plant species classified as IUCN status, namely Pulai (Alstonia scholaris) with Least Concern (LC) or low-risk criteria, Jelutung (Dyera lowii) with Vulnerable (VU) or vulnerable criteria, Kempas (Koompassia malaccensis) with Vulnerable (VU) or vulnerable criteria, and 1 (one) plant species including protected, namely Kempas (Koompassia malaccensis).

Abstract

This study analyzes the quality of  meranti tembaga wood from natural forests with a maximum diameter of 50 cm as a material for the timber management industry. Furthermore, the study also examined the quality of meranti tembaga wood (Shorea leprosula Miq.) from silin engineering plants with diameters of 28 cm, 36 cm, 43 cm, and 51 cm.  This study also examines the diversification of the use of copper meranti wood from silin engineering plants to explore the potential applications of this wood in various industries. Meranti tembaga wood samples were taken from natural forests and plantation forests (intensive silviculture/silin) of PBPH PT Dwimajaya Utama, Central Kalimantan. Furthermore, wood anatomy testing was carried out at the Forest Hasi Technology Laboratory, Gadjah Mada University. The quality of Copper meranti wood from natural forests with a minimum diameter of 50 cm for the wood processing industry was studied. The results of the analysis of the quality of  meranti tembaga wood from Silin engineering plants showed significant variations based on diameter. For a diameter of 28 cm, the cell wall thickness is 1.675 and the lumen diameter is 22.752. For a diameter of 36 cm, the cell wall thickness is 1,633 and the lumen diameter is 20,739. For a diameter of 43 cm, the cell wall thickness is 1.592 and the lumen diameter is 2.268. For a diameter of 51 cm, the cell wall thickness is 1,738 and the lumen diameter is 21,066.

Abstract

This study aims to identify diseases and pests, assess the level of stand damage, and compare the level of damage to Balangeran (Shorea balangeran (Korth.) Burck) and Meranti copper (Shorea leprosula Miq) stands on the Green Campus of Palangka Raya University. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling method with 5% intensity with a total of 150 stands for balangeran and 135 stands for copper meranti. Sampling in the field used a diagonal pattern by taking five sides of each stand plot. The results showed that the dominant pests attacking balangeran and meranti copper stands were green grasshoppers (Oxya chinensis), termites (Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren), leaf bugs (Pentatomidae), moth caterpillars (Labeda nobilis), bag caterpillars (Metisa plana), for diseases, namely leaf spot (Coletotrichum sp), leaf spot (Pestaliopsis sp), leaf spot (Phomopsis vexans). The frequency of attack and intensity of pest and disease attack from both planting locations showed that the planting area in the nursery for pests was higher than the seed garden area while for diseases in the seed garden area was lower than the nursery area

Abstract

This study analyzes the chemical properties of Meranti Tembaga wood (Shorea leprosula Mig.) from natural forests and intensively managed plantation forests (Silin) at PT. Dwima Jaya Utama. Samples were taken from trees with diameters of 28 cm, 36 cm, 43 cm, and 51 cm to compare extractive content (cold water, hot water, ethanol-toluene), holocellulose, α-cellulose, lignin, and ash levels. Results showed that Silin-grown wood had higher extractive content in cold and hot water but lower lignin and ash levels compared to natural forest wood. α-Cellulose content was consistently high across all diameters, meeting industrial standards. The findings suggest that Silin techniques can produce quality wood with shorter harvest cycles, though chemical properties vary by diameter and origin. This research provides valuable insights for sustainable forest management and industrial applications of Shorea leprosula.

Abstract

This research focuses on the assessment of soil macrofauna in gold mine tailing storage facilities (TSF) at PT Kasongan Bumi Kencana. The study aimed to analyze the physical and chemical properties of the soil, identify soil macrofauna, and evaluate their diversity in TSF Mirah I (7 years old) and TSF Mirah II (1 year old). Using a descriptive-quantitative approach, 38 subplots were established within each TSF, and data on macrofauna were collected, analyzed, and presented through descriptive statistics and species diversity index calculations. The results revealed that both TSFs exhibited low organic matter content. Mirah I TSF harbored 15 families with 172 individuals, primarily dominated by the Trigoniulidae (millipedes) family. In contrast, Mirah II TSF contained 14 families with 120 individuals, mainly dominated by the Formicidae (black ant) family. The diversity index for Mirah I TSF was moderate (H’=1.9911), similar to Mirah II TSF (H’=1.8665). These findings highlight the potential of soil macrofauna as bioindicators for assessing tailing quality in gold mine operations. Highlights: Examined physical and chemical properties of soil and identified soil macrofauna in two gold mine tailing storage facilities (TSF) at PT Kasongan Bumi Kencana. Utilized a descriptive-quantitative approach and species diversity index to analyze the macrofauna data. Trigoniulidae (millipedes) dominated in Mirah I TSF, while Formicidae (black ant) dominated in Mirah II TSF, with both TSFs showing a moderate diversity index.
