Abstract

The Impacts of International Student Mobility Program on the Employability Skills: Indonesian Students’ Perceptions. The Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) is an Indonesian government scholarship program that enables Indonesian students to spend one semester studying in overseas English-medium instruction (EMI) classes. The article discusses students’ perceptions of the impact of the IISMA on employability skills:  interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. This quantitative study employed a questionnaire to measure three skill variables, utilizing a pre- and post-test design involving 1941 students. The online questionnaire distribution was done from November 27 to December 13, 2023.  The data of this study were analyzed using Jamovi 2.3.24 software.Key findings demonstrate the significance of the Paired T-Test results (p-value < 0.001), and the difference in the increase in those skills experienced by the IISMA students had a significant effect size increase, specifically d = 0.5 for interpersonal communication skills, d = 0.667 for critical thinking, and d = 0.667 for teamwork skills. The Independent Samples T-Tests for students’ demographic information show that the value of employability skills among academic students outperforms that of vocational participants. ANCOVA analysis results show a significant correlation between students’ perceptions and their home institutions and host institutions. The research highlights the benefits of IISMA for the Indonesia Emas generation. Recommendations on critical considerations in designing programs and selecting host institutions are provided to ensure program sustainability. Keywords: english medium instruction (EMI), experiential learning, indonesia emas.

Abstract

Plantations are a vital non-oil and gas sector that contributes to state revenues. However, the potential of plantations in Indonesia has not fully provided welfare for planters due to the complexity of social networks in management and harvesting. This article attempts to describe how social networks are formed in rubber and clove plantations by looking at the context of social structures in society. The focus of the Research on rubber and clove plantations is not to make comparisons but to explore more broadly the forms of social relations in different plantation management systems and commodity types. Data were collected through a qualitative approach using direct observations and interviews with rubber tappers and clove planters. The study results indicate that in managing rubber latex, tappers use sales networks with companies and middlemen, while in clove plantations, harvesting is closely related to the social relations of the community. This situation indicates that the management system and commodity type determine the social ties formed.

Abstract

One of the ways that can be done to reduce the amount of waste is by managing waste from the household level as its source. The 3R system (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), which has been advocated by various groups, has not shown significant results, thus it requires concrete efforts so that it is not just a slogan. Households are the initial key to waste management considering that households are the largest producers of waste. By looking at these conditions, household-based waste management education is one of the important ways to overcome the waste problem. This community service activity aims to increase public awareness and knowledge of household waste management. The method applied in this community service program is through organizing participatory workshops with the community. activities starting from the assessment stage, awareness of problems, practice, and management planning. With this activity comes awareness to encourage changes at the practical level in the community in implementing the 3R.
