Abstract

In Muslim communities, the muzara’ah contract is implemented as a partnership model between landowners and farmers through a mutually agreed-upon profit-sharing mechanism designed to prevent exploitative practices by balancing the distribution of profits and risks. This study aims to examine the practice of the muzara’ah contract in rice fields in Patobong Village, Mattirosompe Subdistrict, Pinrang Regency. This is a qualitative study involving 5 participants, with data collected through interviews, observations, documentation, and relevant literature. Based on the findings, the practice of the muzara’ah contract in the rice fields of Patobong Village remains relevant and provides benefits to the community. This practice reflects Sharia values such as justice, mutual aid, trustworthiness, and willingness in transactions. However, villagers still have a limited understanding of Sharia economic law, particularly regarding the muzara’ah contract, which is viewed merely as a form of agricultural cooperation inherited from previous generations, without fully grasping the Sharia rules and regulations that govern it comprehensively. Therefore, the application of the muzara'ah contract in the rice fields of Patobong Village is influenced by several factors, such as the community’s understanding of Sharia economic law, social customs that have developed over generations, the economic conditions of the parties involved, and the relationship of trust between landowners and tenant farmers.
