Abstract

School culture plays an essential role in shaping students' character through the internalization of values, norms, habits, and positive behaviors within the school environment. However, various disciplinary violations and inappropriate behaviors among students indicate that the implementation of school culture has not yet optimally supported character development. This study aimed to determine the effect of school culture on students' character formation, measure the magnitude of its contribution, and provide an overview of strengthening school culture in supporting character education. The study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational survey method. The population consisted of students at SMK Jakarta Pusat 1, with 34 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. The findings revealed a positive and significant effect of school culture on students' character formation, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.554. The obtained correlation coefficient exceeded the critical value of the r-table at both the 5% significance level (0.344) and the 1% significance level (0.442), indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. These findings suggest that a positive and consistently implemented school culture contributes to the development of students' character, particularly in fostering discipline, responsibility, and positive attitudes in the school environment.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of teacher competence in the educational process, particularly in shaping and developing students' character. Teachers do not merely convey knowledge but also play an essential role in modeling, guiding, directing, and forming students' attitudes and behavior. This study aimed to measure the extent of the influence of teacher competence on students' character at SMK Jakarta Pusat 1. A quantitative approach with a descriptive analytic correlational method was used. The sample consisted of 76 students selected through simple random sampling from a population of 756 students. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, documentation, and interviews, and were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation and simple linear regression. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between teacher competence and students' character, with a correlation coefficient (rxy) of 0.423 and a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.179, indicating that teacher competence contributed 17.9% to variations in students' character, while the remaining 82.1% was influenced by other factors outside this study. Hypothesis testing showed that ro (0.423) exceeded rt at both the 5% (0.227) and 1% (0.296) significance levels, so the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Therefore, strengthening teacher competence in the pedagogical, personal, social, and professional domains can support the optimal development of students' character. Abstract

This study examines the values of Islamic education contained in Surah Luqman verses 12–19 based on Ibn Kathir’s Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azhim. The study aims to identify the educational values contained in these verses and examine their implications for Islamic educational practice. This study employs a qualitative library research method using a tahlili (analytical) approach. The primary source is Ibn Kathir’s Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azhim, supported by relevant secondary sources on Qur’anic interpretation and Islamic education. The findings indicate that Surah Luqman verses 12–19 contain seven interrelated educational values: tauhid (monotheism), gratitude, filial piety, worship, social responsibility, patience, and noble character (akhlak). These values are conveyed through Luqman’s compassionate advice to his son, beginning with the strengthening of faith and continuing with worship, social responsibility, and moral formation. Ibn Kathir’s interpretation demonstrates that tauhid serves as the fundamental basis for the formation of worship and character. The findings further indicate that these educational values can be reconstructed into educational practice through strengthening the role of teachers as exemplary murabbi, integrating knowledge, faith, worship, and character within the curriculum, and internalizing tawadhu (humility) as an important character value. Thus, Surah Luqman verses 12–19 provide a comprehensive foundation for Islamic education that integrates faith, worship, morality, and social responsibility in the formation of students’ character Keywords: Educational values, Surah Luqman, Ibn Kathir’s Tafsir
