Abstract

This study aims to analyze the push and pull factors driving the migration of the Manggarai people from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to Samarinda City. Utilizing a descriptive approach, data was collected from 29 Manggarai migrants selected through a snowball sampling technique. Data collection involved interviews and documentation, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model alongside descriptive frequency statistics. The findings indicate that the primary push factors from the region of origin are limited employment opportunities (51.72%) and low income (41.38%). Conversely, the dominant pull factors to Samarinda City are the availability of extensive job opportunities (75.86%) and higher income prospects (20.69%). Furthermore, 82.76% of the migrants expressed a desire to settle long-term in Samarinda due to better socioeconomic conditions. This study highlights that economic rationalization and regional developmental disparities remain the central catalysts for inter-island migration, necessitating inclusive urban planning to accommodate the social and spatial adaptation of growing migrant communities.
