Abstract

The coastal area of Labuan Hamlet, Labuhan Kertasari Village, West Sumbawa Regency, is experiencing groundwater resource limitations due to seawater intrusion. This study aims to characterize the subsurface conditions and identify zones potentially affected by seawater intrusion using the two-dimensional electrical resistivity method with a Wenner–Schlumberger configuration. Measurements were conducted using 31 electrodes with an electrode spacing of 6 m and a total survey length of 180 m. The resistivity data were inverted using Res2DInvx64 software to obtain the subsurface resistivity distribution. The interpretation results indicate that the subsurface down to a depth of approximately 29.9 m is predominantly composed of clayey sand. Zones with resistivity values of <10 Ωm are interpreted as zones with relatively high electrical conductivity, which are inferred to be associated with groundwater of relatively high salinity and potentially influenced by seawater intrusion. These zones occur from the beginning of the survey line and exhibit lateral variations in depth and thickness. In contrast, zones with resistivity values of >10 Ωm potentially indicate groundwater conditions with relatively lower salinity. The results demonstrate that the electrical resistivity method can be used to map the distribution of zones potentially affected by seawater intrusion in coastal areas.
