Abstract

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder that negatively affects individuals' cognitive, emotional, and social functioning, often resulting in a diminished quality of life. While pharmacological interventions remain the primary treatment, complementary spiritual therapies have gained interest for their holistic benefits. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Gayatri mantra spiritual treatment on the quality of life among patients with schizophrenia. A one-group pretest-posttest design was used, involving 22 participants selected through purposive sampling at a provincial mental hospital in Bali. Participants received daily Gayatri mantra sessions for three consecutive weeks. The World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) instrument was used to assess outcomes, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The findings showed a significant improvement in quality of life following the intervention. This study highlights the potential value of integrating spiritual practices into nursing care as a complementary therapeutic strategy to support mental health recovery and enhance overall patient well-being.

Abstract

Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of illness and death in toddlers. Mothers, as primary caregivers, play a central role in early prevention efforts, but their knowledge and attitudes regarding pneumonia prevention remain variable. This study aims to examine the relationship between mothers' knowledge and attitudes and pneumonia prevention in toddlers. This study used a correlational quantitative design. The sample consisted of 126 mothers who had toddlers, selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire that measured mothers' knowledge of risk factors, signs and symptoms, and pneumonia prevention efforts, as well as mothers' attitudes toward prevention practices. Data analysis used the Chi-square test. The results showed a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge levels and their efforts to prevent pneumonia in toddlers. Most mothers had a moderate level of knowledge, but there were still gaps in understanding, especially regarding risk factors and early detection. Mothers' attitudes toward pneumonia prevention were not fully reflected in optimal prevention practices. These findings indicate the need for consistent knowledge support and contextual reinforcement. This study emphasizes the importance of community-based nursing interventions that focus on increasing practical knowledge and forming preventive attitudes to strengthen efforts to prevent pneumonia in toddlers.

Abstract

Limitations in school-age children's knowledge about unhealthy eating and drinking patterns can increase the risk of long-term health problems, so early prevention efforts are needed. This study aims to provide an overview of the level of knowledge of elementary school children about the dangers of packaged sweetened beverages. The study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. 133 fifth and sixth grade students were involved in the study, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and cross-tabulation. The results showed that most respondents had a good level of knowledge about the dangers of packaged sweetened beverages. A better level of knowledge tended to be found in older students, female students, students whose parents worked as private employees or entrepreneurs, students who obtained health information from the internet, and students who more often bought packaged sweetened beverages at school. The findings indicate that elementary school children already have a sufficient knowledge base regarding the health risks of sweetened beverages, but environmental factors and sources of information still play an important role in shaping this understanding. Strengthening school-based health education and family support is necessary to encourage healthier beverage choices from an early age.

Abstract

Clinical pathology laboratory services play an essential role in supporting patient diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The high number of outpatient visits to laboratories poses challenges in terms of timeliness, facility availability, and staff responsiveness, which can affect patient satisfaction. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of clinical pathology laboratory services and the satisfaction of outpatients at Restu Ibu Hospital in Balikpapan. The study design uses a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional method, involving 175 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire covering service quality and patient satisfaction, with data analysis using Spearman's correlation test. The results showed that most patients rated the laboratory services as good and expressed satisfaction with the services received. Additionally, a significant positive relationship was found between service quality and patient satisfaction. These findings emphasize the need for continuous improvement in physical facilities, service quickness, and empathetic communication by medical personnel to strengthen service quality and increase patient satisfaction
