Abstract

The digital age has brought significant changes in the learning patterns of elementary school (SD) students through the use of the internet, smart devices, and online learning platforms. These changes have impacted not only the delivery of instructional content but also the dynamics of learning motivation among elementary school students who are at a critical stage of cognitive and emotional development. This study aims to analyze learning motivation of elementary school students in the digital age based on Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory and to identify challenges and opportunities in digital learning at the primary education level. The method used is a systematic literature review (SLR) following the PRISMA guidelines. Data were obtained from the Scopus and SINTA academic databases, covering publications from 2020 to 2026. Of the 247 articles identified, 17 were selected as primary sources through a screening process based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results indicate that learning motivation in the digital age is influenced by the fulfillment of Maslow's five levels of needs: physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. This study also identified specific challenges for elementary school students such as the digital divide, technological distractions, cyberbullying, social isolation, and academic pressure in online learning. However, the digital age offers opportunities such as learning flexibility, personalized learning, improved digital literacy from an early age, and development of students' creativity.
