Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of misconceptions among students on dynamic electricity using a four-tier diagnostic test based on the certainty of response index (CRI). This study is a survey with a descriptive research design. The population consisted of 839 students from 2 public junior high schools in Mamajang District, Makassar with  270 students as sample. The research instrument used was a four-tier diagnostic test consisting of 10 questions that had been validated. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that there were 10 misconceptions held by students, misconceptions occurred in all concepts in the dynamic electricity. The percentage and level of student misconceptions in the concepts related to electric current at 10.37% (low), electrical circuits at 25.93% (low), Ohm's law at 20.19% (low), Kirchoff's law at 10.00% (low), parallel circuits at 23.70% (low), mixed circuits at 17.04% (low), series circuits at 19.07% (low), and electrical power at 18.15% (low). Although the level of miscopception is categorized as low, it still has to be an evaluation

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level and improvement of critical thinking skills of class VII UPT SPF SMPN 33 Makassar students after the application of the PBL model integrated with the STEM approach. This research is a pre-experimental study with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design research design. The population of this study were all students of class VII UPT SPF SMPN 33 Makassar as many as 9 classes with a total of 284 students. Sampling through purposive sampling technique so as to obtain class VII F with a total of 31 students. The research instrument was a critical thinking skills test. Data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of descriptive analysis obtained the average pretest score of 12.81 is in the low category while the average posttest score of 32.48 is in the high category and the average N-Gain of 0.52 is in the medium category. The results of the inferential analysis with the t-test obtained tcount = 15.647> ttable 2.045, it can be concluded that there is an increase in critical thinking skills after the application of the problem-based learning (PBL) model integrated with the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) approach.

Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) the level of students’ creative thinking skills before and after the implementation of a Problem-Based Learning model supported by animated videos, (2) the improvement in creative thinking skills, and (3) differences in creative thinking skills among 8th-grade students at SMP Negeri 27 Makassar in the topic of the human digestive system. This study is a pre-experimental study with a single-group pretest-posttest design. The study population consisted of all 8th-grade students at SMP Negeri 27 Makassar, with a total of 312 students. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, that is, Class VIII.8, which consisted of 28 students. The research instrument was a creative thinking skills test, with data collected through pretests and posttests. The results showed that students’ creative thinking skills improved from the “very low” category to the “moderate” category after the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model supported by animated videos. The average N-Gain for creative thinking skills ranged in the “moderate” category, and there was a significant difference between students’ pretest and posttest scores regarding the human digestive system among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 27 Makassar.
