Abstract

ABSTRACT: This descriptive study aims to analyze students' creative thinking skills in natural science at SMPN 6 in Tanjungpinang. A total of 119 students were being samples in this study. Data collected by test and observation. The issue of environmental pollution becomes a contextual topic to facilitate student tests and responses. From this study, it was known that students have good abilities in the aspects of fluency and flexibility in creative thinking. However in the originality and elaboration aspect are still in the sufficient category. Contextual issues of environmental pollution give support to the results of students' creative thinking abilities. However, the results obtained shows that learning strategies and learning resources are also important points in developing students’ creative thinking skills.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. This study aims to analyze the need for the development of authentic 21st century skills assessment instruments for biology education students. This needs analysis research is an early stage of development research consisting of stages 1) need assessment, 2) identification of component scale (literature study), 3) developing and writing items' component, and 4) field testing, validity, and reliability analysis. This descriptive study uses a questionnaire technique to collect data in the form of lecturer and student responses regarding the need for authentic assessment instruments for 21st century skills. Data analysis was performed using simple statistics, namely percentage and also qualitatively. Based on the results of the research, it was found that prospective biology teacher students admitted that lecturers had already assessed 21st century skills, but the lecturers considered that they had not been maximal in assessing 21st century skills because the instruments used were modest, not developed properly (not validated), and have not measured the real skills of students. So that it is important to do research and development of authentic assessment instruments for 21st century skills.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the extent to which research skills have been mastered by prospective biology teacher in learning at universities and to determine the need for developing research skills. Research skills are defined as skills using information literacy and basic biology laboratory skills related to research. An analysis of curriculum documents and examples of RPS from the biology education study program at one of the universities in the Kepulauan Riau Province was carried out to explore lecture designs that prepare students' research skills. A total of 25 alumni (graduates) of the study program were involved in a perception survey of how important research skills are for them in the workplaces. 27 final year students were also involved in providing self-assessments about their ability to master information literacy and basic biology laboratory skills. Data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Data analysis resulted that the researcher profile is one of the targets for graduates of biology education study programs but has not been supported by course designs. Research skills are needed by alumni in the workplaces and are very relevant to support their careers. Information literacy and basic biology lab skills have not been fully mastered by final year students. There is an urgency to equip students with more adequate skills so that students are better able to carry out research, including completing their studies.
