Abstract

Hadith Trends in Society: Exploration of the Development of Hadith Themes Through Instagram Social Media AnalysisThe discourse surrounding hadith wields a complex influence on society. Serving as the second guiding source after the Quran, hadith not only functions as a spiritual guide but also as a tool for legitimization and justification within various social and political contexts. In the contemporary digital era, especially on social media platforms such as Instagram, the understanding, interpretation, and utilization of hadith by the public have become highly significant. This virtual field research aims to investigate hadith trends within society through the analysis of three Instagram accounts: @nuonline_id, @tausiyahku_, and @muslimahnewsid, employing Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) that explores the relationship between language, power, and ideology. In this study, Fairclough’s approach assists in delving into the use of hadith to construct and perpetuate power dynamics and social values through social media. Through this analysis, the research identifies three main social constructions of hadith: the preservation of NU identity and Aswaja values, viewing hadith as the moral foundation of the Nahdliyin; the reconstruction of social morality through reinterpretations of hadith relevant to contemporary social realities; and the indoctrination of ideology through exclusive and puritanical interpretations of hadith. These findings underscore the complexity of hadith in shaping the identity, morality, and ideology of contemporary society through social media. The implications of this study are profound, indicating that the understanding and application of hadith in social media not only reflect Islamic teachings but also specific socio-political influences and Islamic ideologies. Consequently, this research contributes vital insights into the trends of hadith within digital society, providing a foundation for further discussions about Islam and identity in this digital era.

Abstract

Religious traditions are integral to character education and the preservation of cultural values. This study examines the haul (annual commemoration) of Abuya Uci in Pasar Kemis, Tangerang, as a medium for shaping religious character and preserving local cultural heritage. The annual event at Al-Istiqlaliyah Islamic Boarding School in Cilongok attracts tens of thousands of attendees, facilitating socio-religious interaction. The gap identified in this study is the lack of research on religious commemorations as tools for character education and cultural preservation. Using a library research approach, this study highlights how the haul of Kiai Uci transmits values like humility (tawadhu’), service (khidmah), love of knowledge, and social solidarity. The results suggest that the haul is more than a ritual; it serves as a hidden curriculum for character education and a strategic tool for preserving cultural heritage. It underscores the role of the kiai as a guardian of values, even posthumously.

Abstract

Many khateeb of Friday prayer improperly quote the Prophetic hadiths; some of them, for example, just quote the matan (content) of the hadiths. Hadith comprises three elements: sanad, matan, and rawi. This study aims to analyze the use of the prophetic hadiths among when the khateeb in delivering the khutbah (sermon) during the Friday prayer. This research was conducted at a number of Jami' mosques (mosques hosting Friday noon prayers known as jumu'ah) in Yogyakarta during Friday prayer. The subject of this qualitative research is the khateeb who delivers the khutbah (sermons), which was determined by purposive sampling. The data in this study were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed by means of analytical descriptive method.  The results of this study indicated a positive and important attitude as proven in the way of khateeb, that always quoted and delivered the hadiths as an explanation of the verses of the Qur'an, though the delivery was not as expected by hadith experts and scholars in relation to their insufficient knowledge of hadith science.
