Abstract

DOI:10.17014/ijog.2.3.157-166This research aims to determine the facies and diagenetic level of limestone of the Upper Cibulakan and Parigi Formations, and also aims to determine the structural correlation between surface and subsurface limestones. Based on thin section analyses taken from the core and outcrop samples, there are four types of lithofacies on the Upper Cibulakan Formation, i.e. mudstone-wackestone, wackestone-packstone, packstone-grainstone, and grainstone facies, and also four types of lithofacies on the Parigi Limestone Formation, i.e. mudstone-wackestone, wackestone-packstone, packstone-grainstone, and lower mudstone-wackestone facies. The analysis of surface and subsurface limestone facies of the Upper Cibulakan and Parigi Formations led to the knowledge of the proportionality and variation of the limestone characteristics on both positions. Limestone of the Upper Cibulakan Formation was deposited locally and discontinuously, whilst the Parigi Formation limestone was deposited evenly and continuously. The structural correlation between the surface and subsurface limestone indicates that these formations were uplifted/exposed due to a local force, likely caused by the intrusion of igneous rocks, as happened in the Kromong Complex. The presence of residual hydrocarbon on the surface of the limestone samples suggests the possibility of potential hydrocarbon trapped in the limestone beneath the surface.

Abstract

Facies and depositional environments were studied to determine the growth of the carbonate rocks of Parigi Formation in Pangkalan District, Karawang, West Java. The study was conducted at nine outcrops to identify the characteristics of the macroscopic observations. Some thin section of limestone sample was taken at each location of the observations used to make microscopic analysis. Macroscopic and microscopic analysis of twenty one rock sample classified into six facies, namely: coral bafflestone facies, coral bindstone facies, algae - foraminifera packstone facies, foraminifera packstone facies, interbedded wackestone – grainstone facies, and mudstone facies. A composite log created on the outcrops around G.Guha to determine the stratigraphic of Parigi Formation in Pangkalan District. Facies succession in the composite log grouping facies into several depositional facies associations, namely: fore reef facies, offreef slope facies, reef front facies, and reef flat facies. Depositional environments are fore reef and core reef.

Abstract

Batugamping pada Anggota Batugamping Formasi Bojongmanik yang berlokasi di daerah Ciampea memiliki umur yang ekuivalen dengan Formasi Parigi di Cekungan Jawa Barat Utara yang memiliki cadangan gas 1490 BCF, sehingga sangat menarik untuk dipelajari dan diteliti dari segi fasies sebagai analogi Formasi Parigi di bawah permukaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan karakteristik petrografi dari Anggota Batugamping Formasi Bojongmanik. Metode penelitian adalah pengambilan sampel batuan yang kemudian dilakukan analisis petrografi dan point counting untuk penamaan dan komposisi batuan. Interpretasi dilakukan dengan mengambil sampel dari 16 singkapan batugamping di daerah penelitian yang digunakan untuk analisis petrografi yang menunjukkan litologi packestone, wackestone dan boundstone. Hasil analisis petrografi menunjukkan terdapat 3 tipe mikrofasies yang teridentifikasi, yaitu 1) boundstone, 2) red algae packstone, 3) skeletal wackestone, dengan tipe standard microfacies (SMF) 10 (bioclastic packstone or wackestone with worn skeletal grain), SMF 8 (wackestone or floatstone which whole fossils), dan SMF 7 (organic boundstone, platform margin reef). Lingkungan pengendapan berada pada Facies Zone (FZ) 7 (open marine) dan FZ 5(organic buildups).

Abstract

An integrated study of several methods to characterize a carbonate reservoir provides a comprehensive result on carbonate facies and diagenesis. Therefore, a study on the Tertiary carbonate reservoir at the East Arm of Sulawesi area, Banggai – Sula Basin, is intended to determine the Salodik Group carbonate reservoir facies and diagenesis. Moreover, the purpose of this study is to determine the intensity and implication of syn-depositional or post-depositional processes, and to provide the reservoir final properties values, such as porosity and permeability to classify the reservoir quality. The methods of the study are based on carbonate fieldwork mapping to obtain samples on distributed traverses. Further analyses are the laboratory works to determine facies and diagenesis features on a more detailed scale. This study shows several facies, dominantly classified into reefal packstone, planktonic foraminifera packstone-wackestone, large foram packstone-mudstone, skeletal packstone-wackestone, planktonic-large foraminifera packstone-wackestone, and large foraminifera-red algae packstone. The dominant diagenesis processes are cementation and dissolution. Moreover, meteoric vadose and meteoric phreatic are predominantly the main diagenesis environment of Salodik Group formations. Furthermore, the dominant diagenesis stage is Eogenetic. The post-depositional process or the diagenetic processes, provides a more significant impact on carbonate reservoir properties than the syn-depositional process as shown on lithofacies texture. However, in general, from the younger to the oldest formation of Salodik Group, this shows a decreasing trend of reservoir properties due to the dominantcementation process in the oldest formation. Overall, the reservoir quality referring to porosity value is classified as negligible to excellent. While, based on permeability data, it is classified as the tight to good reservoir.
