Abstract

Blood cancer (leukemia) is a cancer that occurs due to malignancy of blood cells. Treatment of leukemia generally causes damage to normal cells. Therefore, it needs a drug that has the effect of repairing cell damage and the ability to boost immunity of normal such as taurine and Gynura leaves which are expected to have anticancer and antioxidant properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of taurine and dewa leaf extract on blood tissues induced by benzo [α] pyrene in vivo, by looking at changes in body weight, the number of red blood cells (erythrocytes), the total number and differentiation of white blood cells (leukocytes) in mice (Mus musculus). Data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA test followed by LSD at 5% significance level. The treatment groups were the group I was given 0.2 mL of corn oil (negative control), group II (given benzo [α] pyrene as a positive control, Group III (given taurine 7.8 mg/BW/day starting from day 1 to 15 before the induction of benzo [α] pyrene until the end of the study), Group IV was given benzo [α] pyrene, then were given taurine 7.8 mg/BW/day were given 2 times a day, as well as the V group was given benzo [α] pyrene, then given a dose of Gynura leaf extract 277.8 mg /BW/day. The results showed taurine and Gynura leaf extract were able to obstruct leukemia by increasing body weight, erythrocyte, leukocyte, and the number of leukocyte differentiation which becomes normal again. In conclusion taurine has better ability for therapoitic than Gynura leaf extact against blood cells induced by benzo[α]piren

Abstract

In the hatchery of white shrimp larvae, there are some problems, such as a decreased water quality and diseases caused by bacteria which cause a decrease in shrimp growth. The solution to reduce these problems is by applying synbiotics. This research aimed to make an innovative synbiotic formula for the absolute length growth and survival rate of white shrimp larvae (Litopenaeus vannamei) as well as the total number of bacteria and the number of Vibrio sp. In this study, there were four treatments, as follows: C-: negative control (without synbiotic application) C+: positive control (commercial synbiotic) P: probiotic 2.5 x 105 cfu/ml and prebiotic 1,5 ppm Q: probiotic 5 x 105 cfu/ml and prebiotic 1 ppm R: probiotic 7,5 x 105 cfu/ml and prebiotic 0,5 ppm S: probiotic 106 cfu/ml and prebiotic 2 ppm, each treatment with four repetitions. This research was set up in a completely randomized design experiment using twenty-four plastic tanks with 50 L total volume filled with 20 L sterile sea water and stocked with 4,000 nauplii in the PT. Citra Larva Cemerlang hatchery, Kalianda, Lampung. Variables observed in this research were survival rate, absolute length growth, total bacterial and Vibrio sp. counts, and water quality in the white shrimp larvae (Litopenaeus vannamei). The results showed that the best survival rate is in treatment S (probiotic 106 cfu/ml and prebiotic 2 ppm) (87.7%), the highest absolute length growth is in treatment P (3.8 mm), the highest total bacteria was in treatment S (11.1 log cfu/ml), and the best total Vibrio sp. is in treatment S (3.5 log cfu/ml). Water quality of the six treatments shows results that are still in normal conditions following Indonesian National Standard SNI 7311: 2009.

Abstract

Community Service Program aims to provide training on using technology-based medicinal plants to improve human resources and the health of the Banjar Agung Udik village community, Tanggamus, Lampung. This activity will ultimately provide insight, knowledge, abilities, and skills to Banjar Agung Udik village residents in utilizing natural materials in the surrounding environment as health drinks. This work was conducted on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 08.00-12.00 WIB with targeted audience are teenagers, PKK members and men in Banjar Agung Udik village. In addition, village officials also attended this activity. The training activity began with preparing plan and dividing the tasks of the service team, preparing the tools and materials needed during the training, and determining the training schedule. The activity ended with socialization and direction on making healthy drinks based on local natural resources. The results of this activity showed that the community was enthusiastic and actively involved in participating in the health drink-making training. With ongoing training, participants are expected to have the knowledge and skills that can be used to improve the quality of health, and even support community economic needs.

Abstract

Leptospirosis is a disease caused by the bacterium Leptoslira. Banteri that can be transmitted from animals to humans. The spread can be through the urine of infected animals Leptospirosis disease increases during floods. Labuhan Ratu urban village in Bandar Lampung is one of the urban villages affected by flooding during high rainfall. An understanding of this disease is needed by the community, especially members of Majelis Taklim Miftahul Jannah in Labuhan Ratu Village. This is to be more vigilant in dealing with floods. The pre-test results of the Community Service Participants were 63.37. The post-test results showed an increase with a score of 90. These results prove an increase in understanding of Community Service participants by 26.33 points. The existence of this service is expected that members of Majelis Taklim Miftahul Jannah, Labuhan Ratu Village can understand the knowledge about leptorspirosis disease and the information obtained can be disseminated to the community in Labuhan Ratu.  Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

Abstract

Abstract

Intensive shrimp culture has encountered many problems, such as declining water quality through disease caused by pathogenic microbes, which affected mortality. This study aimed to determine any potential probiotic from Bacillus sp. collected from mangrove in East Lampung, which could be used to improve the cultured shrimps' proteolytic and probiotic activity. This is a descriptive research with sampling and data collection of bacteria from many samples of mangrove. Result shows 128 isolates Bacillus from which then it has arrived at five potential probiotic Bacillus sp. The study five Bacillus sp. has been isolated with potential properties for probiotic (KPP212, IP121, UJ131, UJ132, SB141). Each isolate has characteristics with proteolytic property, growth in a wide range of pH 4–10 and osmotic stress (0–6% NaCl), non-pathogenic, ability for glucose fermentation, non-motile, and has negative catalase activity. The five potential Bacillus sp. can be used as probiotics for shrimp farming.
