Abstract

Background: Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) is a prevalent psychological phenomenon among adolescents in the digital era, driven by social media exposure and low self-concept. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a psychoeducational intervention designed to strengthen positive self-concept as a preventive measure against FoMO in junior high school students. Method: The research employed a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design involving 22 students from SMP Bukit Aksara, Semarang, of whom 20 completed the entire intervention. The instruments used were the FoMO Scale and a Self-Concept Knowledge Test. Results: The results from the paired sample t-test showed a statistically significant reduction in FoMO scores (p = 0.015). Qualitative analysis of open-ended responses and reflective journals indicated improved emotional awareness and self-acceptance, although cognitive understanding of self-concept remained inconsistent. Conclusion: The psychoeducational program effectively reduced FoMO tendencies and enhanced reflective and emotional capacities in participants, though cognitive outcomes require further instructional refinement.

Abstract

The Argorejo karaoke district has become a popular destination for night-time leisure activities in Semarang. A study was conducted in collaboration with the Argorejo Karaoke Association (PAKAR). It was determined that specific programmes, including those utilising psychological principles, is necessary. The challenges experienced by these individuals frequently pertain to a lack of support from their social networks, profound emotional distress, and an inability to effectively cope with adversity. The psychoeducation approach was employed in a study involving 49 females who were employed as lady companions. Initially, the participants were provided with psychosocial support material. Secondly, focus groups were convened and facilitated using "we-ness" cards. The quantitative findings demonstrated that the mean score for the perception of social support received by individuals increased. Participants are able to recognise emotions and comprehend when they require different types of support from others, which was a qualitative finding. Participants develop an understanding of their own needs and provide psychological support to others for ensuring optimal well-being in the long term. Further research is required to ascertain the efficacy of the "we-ness" card in a range of community service contexts, particularly those most in need, it is imperative that diverse groups collaborate.

Abstract

Long-distance relationships are a condition frequently experienced by university students in romantic partnerships, often leading to anxiety due to the limited opportunities for direct interaction. This research aims to examine the effect of self-disclosure on the anxiety of students engaged in long-distance relationships, viewed from the perspective of attachment style. The research employed a quantitative approach with 265 participants selected through purposive sampling. Three instruments were used for measurement: the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS), a self-disclosure scale based on Devito’s (1986) theory, and an attachment style scale adapted from Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991). Data were analyzed using moderated multiple linear regression. The findings revealed a significant effect of self-disclosure on student anxiety; however, attachment style did not strengthen or weaken this effect. This study provides practical implications for students in maintaining long-distance relationships through enhanced self-disclosure, as well as theoretical contributions to the field of relationship psychology. Self-disclosure is effective in reducing student anxiety in LDR, but its effectiveness is not affected by attachment styles. These findings provide practical implications for students in managing LDR through increased openness, as well as theoretical contributions to the development of relationship psychology.

Abstract

This study addresses the high prevalence of psychological distress among university students in Indonesia and the limited empirical evidence regarding protective psychological resources within a religious–cultural context. The objective of this research is to examine the relationship between spiritual well-being and psychological distress, including its core dimensions of depression, anxiety, and stress. A quantitative approach was employed using a cross-sectional correlational design. Data were collected from 327 undergraduate students via an online survey using the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). The data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho correlation technique. The findings demonstrate a strong and statistically significant negative relationship between spiritual well-being and overall psychological distress (ρ = −0.662), indicating that higher spiritual well-being is associated with lower levels of psychological distress. Further analysis revealed that spiritual well-being was most strongly related to depression (ρ = −0.715), followed by anxiety (ρ = −0.618) and stress (ρ = −0.476). These results confirm the role of spiritual well-being as a significant protective factor against psychological distress among Indonesian university students.
