Abstract

Most of the people in Buraen Village rely on agriculture for their livelihoods, with seasonal land management, primarily focused on horticultural crops. Agricultural activities produce a significant amount of waste which can be utilized by the community to enhance farming practices. However, the management of agricultural waste itself has not yet received much attention from community. One form of agricultural waste processing technology that can be implemented is the production of eco-enzyme. The objective of this community service activity is to work with the target partners in processing organic waste from household and agricultural residues into eco-enzyme products. The approach applied in this program involves the transfer of information and technology through extension activities about eco-enzyme and its benefits in agriculture. In addition, the community is provided with training to develop skills in processing organic waste into eco-enzyme. The result of this activity show that the community in Buraen, as the target partner, gained an understanding of the concept of eco-enzyme and its utilization in agricultural practices. The community also acquired practical skills to process organic waste into eco-enzyme, which can be applied independently. With these skills, the community is expected to contribute to managing organic waste productively, reducing waste in the surrounding environment, and minimizing its negative impact. It is expected that this program will also raise community awareness about importance of environmental preservation. In conclusion, this program not only offers practical solutions for waste management but also supports the realization of environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

Abstract

An experimental research was carried out on farmer's land in Batuplat Village, Alak District, Kupang City and at the Soil Physics Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Nusa Cendana University. The aims of this study were: (1) to determine the effect of the treatment of the composition of the planting medium in the form of a mixture of vertisol, sand and rice husk charcoal on the physical properties of the soil, growth and yield of rapeseed; and (2) getting the composition of the growing media that gives the best effect on soil physical properties, growth, and radish yield. The study was designed in a single factor experiment using an environmental design in the form of a completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment tested was the composition of the planting medium in the form of a mixture of vertisol, sand and rice husk charcoal, namely: 1 : 1 : 1 (P1); 1 : 1 : 2 (P2); 1 : 2 : 1 (P3); 2 : 1 : 1 (P4); 2 : 2 : 1 (P5) and 2 : 1 : 2 (P6). Each treatment was made in 3 replications so that in total there were 18 experimental units. Parameters observed included: soil bulk density, soil porosity, plant height, number of leaves per plant, and fresh weight of radish tubers. The results showed: (1) the composition of the growing media had a very significant effect on the parameters of fill density and soil porosity, as well as the height and number of leaves per plant at the age of 2 and 4 weeks after planting (MST), but had no significant effect on the fresh weight of radish tubers per plant; (2) there was no treatment of the composition of the planting medium in the form of a mixture of Vertisol, soil, and rice husk charcoal which had the best effect on the physical properties of the soil, growth and yield of rapeseed. Each treatment of the composition of the planting media that was tried was able to change the physical condition of the Vertisols to be better and more conducive to plant growth and development of radish tubers in the soil.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the diversity of weed species in corn plantings in the Usaha Maju Farmer Group, Naibonat Village, East Kupang District, Kupang Regency which took place from July to December 2020. Observation of weeds was carried out using the quadratic method. Observations in the sample plots by making observation subunits measuring 1 x 1 m2. Unknown weed species were collected and then identified using the Plant Snap application and making a herbarium. The results showed that there were 13 weed species found associated with corn plants, namely Eleusine indica, Setaria pumila, Echinochloa colona, Cynodon dactylon, Digitaria ciliaris, Xanthium strumarium, Centela asiatica Ipomoea obscura, Euphorbia hirta, Tridax procumbens, Spigelia anthelmia, Passiflora foetida, and Phyllanthus niruri. Based on vegetation analysis, Eleusine indica and Euphorbia hirta were more dominant than other weed species with absolute densities of 20.5m2 and 21.3m2 per maize plant, respectively.
