Abstract

Perwujudan budaya lokal terdapat pada tradisi, religi, sosial, teknologi dan seni. Penelitian ini bertujuan memberikan model pelestarian budaya melalui dunia pendidikan untuk mengembangkan visualisasi yang baru terhadap karakter-karakter budaya lokal di Kudus dengan cara melakukan kajian ilmu pengetahuan dan seni, melalui rekonstruksi serta melakukan visualisasi ulang terhadap karakter budaya lokal dengan gaya visual dan cerita yang baru agar bisa diterima khususnya oleh siswa-siswa di Sekolah Dasar. Jenis metode penelitian ini yang digunakan adalah metode Penelitian dan Pengembangan (Research and Development atau R&D). Hasil yang dikembangkan dalam pengembangan bahan ajar terdiri dari: (1) Kajian tentang kondisi, persepsi dan kebutuhan bahan ajar berupa cerita bergambar budaya lokal Kudus; (2) Kajian hasil pengembangan bahan ajar berupa cerita bergambar budaya lokal kota Kudus, dan (3) Kajian hasil uji coba produk.Selama proses pembelajaran budaya lokal Kudus, hasil penilaian sikap diambil dari kemampuan kognitif dan psikomotorik melalui keaktifan siswa dan hasil pengamatan siswa. Aspek kognitif yang dimiliki yaitu pengetahuan tentang cerita budaya lokal Kudus, mennganalisis cerita budaya lokal Kudus dari segi makna yang terkandung

Abstract

Figurative Language is commonly used in literary work, especially in a song lyric. The song is also commonly used by English teachers as a medium in the teaching process. It makes the learning proses becomes more interesting and satisfying. Besides that, the song also contains a moral message which is implied in the lyrics which can be used by the teachers to teach the students in building the characters. This research is aimed at finding the types and meaning of the figurative language which are used in Nirvana’s song lyrics and to explain the interpretation of the meanings which support moral message. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research are the words, phrases, and sentences of Nirvana songs that use figurative language. The data source is taken from all of Nirvana's song lyrics in the “Nevermind” Album. The result of the research indicates that the there are 13 types of figurative language, those are Metaphor (32,7%), Symbolism (30,2%), Idiom (9,5%), Hyperbole (5,2%), Metonymy (3,4%), Satire (3,4%), Synecdoche (2,6%), Pun or Paronomasia (2,6%), (2,6%), Litotes (2,6%), Paradox (2,6%), Simile (1,7%), and Personification (0,9%); and that the most moral messages delivered in Nevermind Album are bravery and honesty.

Abstract

One of the skills that must be possessed in the 21st century is collaboration skill. It requires teachers to present or provide it in the learning process, so that later students are expected to be able to implement it in their real life. The study reported in this paper aims to describe the implementation of collaboration skill in the process of teaching and learning. The data collected by means of close-ended questionnaires and guided interview that were administered to 125 freshman students of the English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus. The result shows that 84% of the students said that the teacher has implemented the collaboration skill, however from 84%, only 48% is categorized as instructionally effective. It is suggested that the teachers should manage some instructions and control how the instructions are executed. Keywords: 21st century skills, collaboration skill, effective instruction.

Abstract

Lexical collocation is one of the grammar material in English subjects that is taught by the English teacher for the eleventh grade students in the High School. Therefore, it is important to analyze the students’ level of understanding after learning the material. This research aims to classify the types of lexical collocation and to find out the students’ ability in writing dialogue text using lexical collocations. In this research, the descriptive qualitative was used as a research design. The writer did documentation as data collection technique. The participants of this research were the XI MIPA 6 students of MAN 1 Kudus in the academic year 2021/2022. The writer had analyzed 13 dialogue texts written by the students who worked in a pair. The findings show that there are seven types of lexical collocation found, those are verb with preposition + noun/pronoun (8.93%), verb + noun (19.64%), adjective + noun (35.71%), noun + verb (1.79%), noun + noun (25%), adverb + adjective (1.79%), and verb + adverb (7.14%). Moreover, the percentage of the correct lexical collocations shows that the students have excellent skills in writing dialogue text using lexical collocations.

Abstract

Literacy has been a big concern for the English Education Department. As an effort to prepare the freshmen to be literate and get ready for academic life during their study in undergraduate program, the department enacted a literacy program namely, “One Day One Article One Week One Chapter”. The present research aims to portray the implementation and investigate the students’ perception of the program. This research is qualitative by using observation and questionnaire distribution. The observation was carried out during the implementation of the program. A closed-ended questionnaire, which was developed to determine the students’ perception, was administered at the end of the program to the thirty first-semester students. Based on the observation, it was revealed that the program’s implementation is seen to be applicable as a regular program in the department. Based on the questionnaire, the students’ reading frequency was in the sometimes category; the topic preference was mostly social; the reading source was from online and printed sources; no significant number of students did post-reading activities; and the students read anywhere. The students’ perception of the program was positive in terms of reading importance and reading advantage.

Abstract

Pengabdian pada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membekali masyarakat Desa Jepang Kecamatan Dawe Kabupaten Kudus khususnya generasi muda agar memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan cara membuat copywriting untuk promosi pariwisata dengan kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan. Metode pemberdayaan yang dilaksanakan terdiri dari beberapa tahapan. Pertama, pelatihan copywriting baik teori maupun praktek, pendampingan copywriting online, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan pengabdian copywriting dilaksanakan pada tanggal 23 September s/d 8 Oktober 2023. Hasil dari Pengabdian Masyarakat Copywriting menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan masyarakat desa Jepang dalam membuat copywriting meningkat setelah dilakukan pelatihan dan pendampingan. Hal ini terlihat dari copywriting yang dihasilkan selama proses pelatihan. Diharapkan setelah pengabdian masyarakat ini terlaksana, masyarakat di Japan Village dapat secara mandiri mempromosikan destinasi wisata dan event pariwisata dengan lebih baik dan persuasif kepada calon wisatawan domestik maupun internasional.

Abstract

The development of Desa Wisata is one alternative to improve the community’s economy, including Desa Japan in Kudus Regency, Central Java. To support this, improving human resources—especially foreign language skills—is essential. This community service aimed to provide “English for Tour Guide” training for tourism activists in Desa Japan. The training focused on practical English for guiding tourists, particularly foreigners. Participants practiced spoken English relevant to tourism settings. The training outcomes included: (1) increased confidence in speaking English, (2) improved tourism knowledge, (3) enhanced public speaking skills, and (4) better understanding and use of English for tour guiding. Through this activity, tourism activists are expected to become role models in using simple and practical English within the community.Pengembangan Desa Wisata merupakan salah satu alternatif untuk meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat, termasuk Desa Japan di Kabupaten Kudus, Jawa Tengah. Untuk mendukung program ini, diperlukan peningkatan sumber daya manusia, khususnya dalam keterampilan berbahasa asing. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan memberikan pelatihan “English for Tour Guide” bagi para pelaku wisata di Desa Japan. Pelatihan difokuskan pada penggunaan Bahasa Inggris praktis dalam konteks pariwisata. Hasil kegiatan ini antara lain: (1) meningkatnya kepercayaan diri pelaku wisata dalam berbahasa Inggris, (2) meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan di bidang pariwisata, (3) meningkatnya kemampuan public speaking, serta (4) meningkatnya pemahaman dan penggunaan Bahasa Inggris sebagai pemandu wisata. Melalui kegiatan ini, pelaku wisata diharapkan dapat menjadi panutan dalam penggunaan Bahasa Inggris yang sederhana dan praktis di lingkungan masyarakat Desa Japan.
