Abstract

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MK) plays a crucial role in reviewing laws against the 1945 Constitution and resolving election disputes, ensuring adherence to constitutional principles. Tempo.co, a prominent media outlet, has extensively covered the MK, especially following the recent controversy over the Court's ruling on age limits for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. This research examines how Tempo.co frames its coverage of the MK using Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis model, alongside agenda-setting theory and media reality construction theory. Applying a qualitative methodology, the study analyzes Tempo.co’s news articles from October 18 to October 27, 2023. The analysis reveals that Tempo.co employs various framing techniques consistent with Entman's model, which influences public perception through agenda-setting by emphasizing specific aspects of the MK’s activities. Additionally, the coverage constructs a particular narrative about the MK's role and decisions. To ensure data validity, thorough checks were performed. Findings indicate that Tempo.co’s headlines generally maintain neutrality and do not exhibit overt political bias, focusing on the institution’s functions. This research offers insights into how media framing, through Entman's model, agenda-setting, and reality construction, shapes the portrayal of significant constitutional issues and affects public understanding of the MK.

Abstract

Documentary films serve as powerful media for conveying messages and stories to audiences. Netflix released a documentary titled "Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso", which gained widespread attention by highlighting the cyanide coffee murder case involving Jessica Wongso and Mirna Salihin—an incident that became national news. This study focuses on analyzing the framing of Edi Darmawan, the father of the late Mirna, portrayed as an arrogant and ambitious figure in the film. The research employs a qualitative approach, using the framing analysis model developed by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki. The findings reveal that Edi is framed as a person with strong ambitions and arrogance in his pursuit of justice for his daughter, resulting in negative public perceptions. This study provides insights into how visual media, especially documentary films, shape public perceptions regarding complex legal and social issues. Furthermore, the results highlight the role of visual narratives in influencing audience attitudes and encourage critical reflection on the way stories are framed within visual media.

Abstract

Abstract

The present study aims to identify the factors that influence Muslim tourists' intention to visit non-Muslim cultural destinations, with an emphasis on halal culinary tourism at Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 (PIK 2).Utilizing a virtual ethnography approach and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as the theoretical foundation, this study analyzes Muslim tourists' perceptions and experiences through social media platforms.Data collection methods include online observation, virtual interviews, and content analysis on social media, especially Instagram and TikTok. The results of the study indicated three primary factors that influence intention to visit: access to information on halal food, positive reviews from other Muslim travelers, and inclusive cultural representations. Social media plays a crucial role in marketing PIK2 as a halal destination, through the utilization of the hashtag #kulinerhalalpik and reviews from influencers that add to the attractiveness of the place. This finding underscores the value of TPB in analyzing Muslim tourist behavior and emphasizes the necessity for a social media-based marketing strategy to promote halal tourist destinations. The implications of this study include recommendations for tourism managers to enhance access to halal information and provide Muslim-friendly facilities, as well as for the tourism industry to devise effective marketing strategies to attract Muslim tourists to non-Muslim destinations.
