Abstract

Character education (CE) is essential in developing students' personalities. In character development, English Language Teaching (ELT) textbooks have a vital role in supporting character education. However, ELT textbooks published in Indonesia and abroad underrepresent the characters that fulfill the curriculum goals of CE. Based on previous research that had been conducted in Indonesia, English textbooks in the 2013 curriculum were not representative of Indonesian culture and showed character gaps in the textbooks. Therefore, this research investigated CE in the English textbook based on the emancipated curriculum. This study analyzed the ELT textbook for the seventh-grade junior high school in the current curriculum called “English for Nusantara” by utilizing the Pancasila Student Profile to analyze CE. Content analysis by Ary et al. (2010) was selected as an analysis method for analyzing CE through visual materials. The results show that there are character gaps presented in ELT textbooks. The characters of having Faith fear of the Almighty God and noble character are more dominant in the textbook. This provides an opportunity for future researchers to examine CE by investigating diverse research objects so that CE can be conveyed relevantly.

Abstract

In today’s era, acts of violence often transpire among senior high school students. An effective way to prevent this issue is by integrating peace values into the educational field and strengthening the role of textbooks as a medium to present universal values. In other words, the use of textbooks has the potential to promote peace values through textbook artifacts. Due to this, the current study aimed to investigate the representation of peace values in the ELT textbook entitled ‘Bahasa Inggris English for Change’, which serves as the learning medium for eleventh-grade senior high school students. This study is a descriptive qualitative design using critical discourse analysis and conducted in the Indonesian EFL context. A document analysis process was used to collect the data, which was analyzed using the Multimodality framework of Kress & Leeuwen. The findings show that two pictures and four photographs with the verbal texts represented peace with nature, and two pictures with the verbal texts represented inner peace. In line with this, the findings are beneficial for increasing understanding about the way to foster inner peace and peace with nature for the present and future generations.

Abstract

Penangkapan Ikan Teri (Stolephorus sp.) di Perairan Pulolampes, Brebes umumnya ditangkap menggunakan jaring puring, dimana jaring lingkar berbahan utama waring.  Distribusi ukuran ikan teri berguna untuk mengetahui sebaran ukuran ikan teri dan estimasi laju pertumbuhan spesies dari ikan teri. Hal ini berguna untuk manajemen populasi dan sebagai informasi tentang stok atau kondisi organisme. Disamping itu, sebagai dasar dalam upaya pengelolaan dan pemanfaatan ikan teri di masa akan datang. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisa komposisi sumber daya yang ditekankan pada keragaan struktur hasil tangkapan dan ukuran dan pola pertumbuhan ikan teri hasil tangkapan jaring lingkar teri. Data ikan teri didapatkan pada bulan Maret hingga April dan Juli hingga Agustus 2017. Hasil penelitian diperoleh ikan teri yang terpanjang adalah 91 mcm, dengan beratnya adalah 6,5 g, sedangkan ukuran yang terpendek adalah 29,8 mm, dengan beratnya adalah 2 gram dan modus ukuran 62,9 mm.Penangkapan ikan teri pada bulan Agustus 2017 lebih layak tangkap dibandingkan pada bulan April dan Mei 2017. Hasil perhitungan panjang dan berat tubuh ikan dengan menggunakan rumus maka diperoleh hasil di lokasi Perairan Pulolampes diperoleh b = 1,041. Dari hasil perhitungan menunjukan nilai b berada dibawah 3 menunjukkan pola pertumbuhan ikan teri di Perairan Pulolampes, Brebes bersifat allometrik negatif. Pertumbuhan ikan teri allometrik negatif, dimana pertumbuhan panjang tubuh lebih dominan dibanding pertambahan bobot. Keadaan ini mengindikasikan bahwa kondisi lingkungan Perairan Pulolampes Brebes cocok untuk pertumbuhan ikan teri dan masih aman dari tekanan aktivitas penangkapan

Abstract

Building learning autonomy is a pivotal aspect in higher education. Students should be able to be more independent, rather than relying heavily on teacher-directed activities within the classroom. It is crucial to provide self-access materials that align with students' learning needs. This current research, therefore, aimed at developing interactive English supplementary materials using Genial.ly for promoting students' autonomous learning. Genial.ly has been proven to be a promising application; however, the use of Genial.ly to develop English for Specific Purposes (ESP) self-access learning materials for EFL Nursing students is still understudied. Following the research and development stages, which included planning, development, and evaluation, the findings showed that the average scores for language and media expert validation were 4.8 and 4.7, respectively. Following this, the researcher conducted the first revision and a small-scale trial, yielding an average score of 4.1. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the learning product meets the standard and is feasible to be implemented as supplementary materials to help both teachers and students within the English teaching and learning process. Further classroom action research (CAR) or experimental design is highly recommended to investigate the effectiveness of the Genial. Ly-based learning product. The implementation of Genial. Ly-based interactive English supplementary materials also required further and larger feedback from the broader user base to inform future product development that meets the students' needs.

Abstract

Indonesian Wayang is a cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO that must be preserved and passed toward future generations. One of the efforts to maintain wayang existence is through the insertion within educational field by the help of technology and animation in the form of digital storytelling. This research is aimed at exploring the implementation of wayang-based digital storytelling project at an Indonesian school which combined art, culture, skills, character education, cultural heritage values and global knowledge. The researchers applied narrative inquiry design in order to investigate and have in depth exploration toward the implementation of wayang-based digital storytelling within the researcher’s classroom. After having the analysis and reflection toward teaching and learning process as well as teaching documentation, it is concluded that the wayang-based project is potential to help students in addressing cultural challenges. Through the wayang media applied, the young generation know and increase their awareness to preserve the local cultural heritage. Further, the implementation of project in group using technology integration is concluded to be effective to enhace students’ collaborative, communicative, and ICT literacy which is very important in the 21 century era. Moreover, the topic which was close to socio environmental issues is expected to raise students’ awareness to be active individual to protect the surroundings. In conclusion, the application of wayang-based project within the classroom is effective and potential to strengthen Profil Pelajar Pancasila character stated in national curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka).

Abstract

Rumah potong ayam (RPA) PT. Ciomas Adisatwa Maros merupakan salah satu perusahaan perunggasan yang bergerak di bidang industry pemotongan unggas yang telah menggunakan teknologi moderen sesuai SNI. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui mendeskripsikan strategi pemasaran karkas ayam broiler di masa pandemi covid 19 pada PT. Ciomas Adisatwa Maros. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif. Untuk memperoleh data menggunakan metode wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data menggunakan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarik kesimpulan. Melalui metode deskriptif analisis peneliti berusaha memaparkan secara jelas berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilaksanakan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan bauran pemasaran yang meliputi Produk yang dijual di PT. Ciomas Adisatwa Maros merupakan karkas ayam broiler yang dijual kepada konsumen. Saluran distribusi karkas ayam broiler di PT. Ciomas Adisatwa Maros melalui 3 lembaga yaitu pedagang besar, pedagang kecil, konsumen, harga karkas ayam broiler di PT. Ciomas Adisatwa Maros menetapkan harga sesuai kualitas ayamnya dan promosi karkas ayam broiler di PT. Ciomas Adisatwa Maros dilakukan melalui SMS, telepon, media sosial online atau pedagang yang langsung datang ke perusahaan.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy ability is an ability that is an important factor in carrying out learning activities. This ability consists of formulating, applying, and explaining mathematics in various contexts. In line with this, PISA has added components and indicators of mathematical literacy ability to its latest assessment. One of the innovations that can improve mathematical literacy skills is to use project-based learning or what is known as Project based learning (PjBL). In this model, students can explore, interpret, synthesize and search for information in completing the projects they are working on. This research is a qualitative research using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by reviewing similar research that has the same goal. The research step consists of 4 stages, namely, classifying, identifying, collecting and analyzing similar research regarding the Project based learning model. The results of this study are that the geogebra-assisted PjBL learning model can be used as an innovation to improve mathematical literacy skills. In addition, Project based learning (PjBL) learning requires students to learn in practice through real experiences, not just learning in theory in class.

Abstract

Integrating cultural content into English language learning is crucial, especially in Indonesia where English is taught as a foreign language. Cultural elements can be introduced through various educational settings, particularly via ELT textbooks used in schools. While previous studies have examined culture in textbooks aligned with the 2013 Curriculum, this study investigates the cultural categories represented in the ELT textbook Bahasa Inggris English for Change for eleventh-grade students. Using a content analysis approach, the study analyzed both visual and textual artifacts based on Cortazzi and Jin’s cultural categories: Source Culture, Target Culture, and International Culture. The results show that all three categories are present across 20 identified artifacts. Source Culture is the most frequently represented (11 artifacts), followed by International Culture (5 artifacts), while Target Culture appears the least (4 artifacts). The study recommends that teachers incorporate a more balanced range of cultural materials, that curriculum developers integrate source, target, and international cultural elements more systematically, and that policy support be strengthened to promote equitable cultural representation in national ELT materials.

Abstract

Cultural imbalance in English Language Teaching (ELT) textbooks remains a major concern in Indonesia’s EFL contexts. Many government-endorsed ELT textbooks often emphasize local culture while neglecting global perspectives, which can hinder the development of students' Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC). To address this issue, this study examines the representation of multicultural values in Pathway to English for tenth-graders, a non-government-endorsed ELT textbook. Using Moran's (2001) five cultural dimensions and Fairclough’s (1995) Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) framework, the findings reveal that the textbook reflects three values: appreciating other people’s cultural products (AOPCP), respecting other people’s communities (ROPC), and appreciating other people’s practices (AOPP). However, the textbook lacks representations of cultural perspectives and figures. While it introduces international cultures, the content focuses heavily on cultural products, limiting opportunities to fully develop students' ICC. These results suggest that more balanced and comprehensive cultural content is essential in ELT textbooks to support the holistic development of students' ICC in a globalized world.
