Abstract

This study critically examines the application of gamification features—points, badges, and leaderboards—within hybrid Qur'anic learning environments, testing their influence on student motivation and learning outcomes through a Self-Determination Theory framework. Employing a quantitative approach with SmartPLS analysis on data from 250 Muslim students, the research yielded a critical paradox: while points and badges positively influenced engagement, leaderboards demonstrated a negative effect, and crucially, the resulting engagement failed to translate into improved Qur'anic learning effectiveness. The model's explanatory power was severely limited (R² = 0.021 for learning outcomes), and a fundamental measurement model failure was observed, with invalid reliability and validity metrics (e.g., negative Cronbach's Alpha). This comprehensive model invalidity challenges the direct transferability of secular gamification models to religious education, suggesting that extrinsic rewards may undermine intrinsic spiritual motivation. The study concludes that a paradigm shift is necessary, advocating for the development of a unique, theologically-grounded gamification pedagogy that prioritizes spiritual growth over competitive mechanics and calls for a fundamental reconceptualization of engagement metrics in sacred learning contexts.

Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the scholarly discourse on algorithmic authority and public trust concerning YouTube's recommendation system in shaping Islamic religious authority (2013-2023). Analyzing 677 Scopus-indexed documents from China, Indonesia, and Taiwan, this research employs co-citation and bibliographic coupling analyses to map the field's intellectual structure. The findings reveal a robust knowledge base anchored in studies of Islamic reformism, post-Islamism, and contemporary religious authority, while current research fronts explore the interplay of inspirational content, source credibility, and misinformation. The co-citation analysis identified key thematic clusters, including "Algorithmic Preachers," "The Digital Reformation of Indonesian Islam," and "The Pluralization of Islamic Discourse," demonstrating the field's theoretical depth. However, the study acknowledges limitations, including database dependency and the potential for artificial thematic convergence in algorithmic clustering. The bibliographic coupling revealed integrative clusters merging commercial and public health perspectives on user engagement, highlighting both the field's interdisciplinary nature and its conceptual challenges. Future research agendas propose methodological innovations in Islamic-specific algorithm auditing, theoretical expansion through integrating Islamic epistemology with algorithm studies, and ethical governance frameworks based on maqasid al-shariah. This analysis concludes that algorithmic authority constitutes a significant, evolving force in contemporary Islamic religious landscapes, necessitating continued critical investigation to navigate its implications for religious trust, authority, and community in increasingly digitized Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study explores the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in character formation, particularly in the context of the Independent Curriculum and integrated Islamic schools. The research highlights the importance of religious activities, such as Tadarus (Quran recitation), in fostering a disciplined, focused classroom atmosphere, while also integrating key character values, such as religiosity, discipline, responsibility, honesty, and noble morality, into the curriculum and teaching practices, by using a qualitative case study approach with observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that while religious practices and value discussions engage students, self-reflection remains moderate, suggesting the need for a more systematic approach to foster deeper personal reflection. The study’s contribution lies in providing a comprehensive framework for managing PAI learning, emphasizing the integration of character education within Islamic schools. Future research should explore the impact of socio-cultural contexts, technology integration, and enhanced self-reflection on character development strategies in PAI education.

Abstract

This study investigates the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach to Islamic Religious Education instruction at State Special School 1 Lebong, with a focus on how contextual strategies can bridge the gap between religious material and the real experiences of students with special needs. The research methodology adopts a qualitative paradigm with a descriptive-interpretive design. Triangulation data gathering methods include academic documentation reviews, in-depth interviews with educational stakeholders, and structured participatory observation. To produce accurate and trustworthy results, data analysis employs Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which comprises the phases of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drafting. The study's conclusions showed that the CTL approach in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) instruction at SLBN 1 Lebong was operationalized through seven fundamental pillars: constructivism, investigation, and questioning, learning community, modeling, reflection, and authentic assessment. Teachers designed learning differentiation by adjusting the complexity of the material, utilizing multisensory media, and providing individual scaffolding that was responsive to the specific characteristics and obstacles of each student. Significant findings indicate that the CTL approach not only improved students' cognitive competence in understanding fundamental concepts of Islamic teachings but also optimized their active involvement in the learning process.
