Abstract

In politics, minority groups often collide with the majority group over ethnicity or religious issues. But, we have witnessed many leaders from minority groups win elections for political executive posts. They use a distinctive strategy during their campaigns. Insteadof using rational approaches, they opt for irrational approaches. We conduct a content analysis of a Facebook fanpage belonging to a candidate from a minority group during 30 days of gubernatorial campaign. The study indicates that the gubernatorial candidate uses pathos as a primary rhetorical strategy. The candidate persuades the audience by triggering their emotions.

Abstract

This research examines enactive English language acquisition using a hobby-based method, exhibited by the "Tarkam Londo" YouTube video production. Employing enactive learning derived from social cognitive theory, it seeks to provide an innovative viewpoint on English language acquisition. This research employs a qualitative document study methodology to investigate the English learning process by creating and disseminating audiovisual content related to football on a YouTube channel. The data-gathering process involved the examination of informal researcher diaries, football videos, and manually revised English transcripts of selected occurrences. Descriptive and interpretative analyses looked at how the quality of commentator language changed over time and combined documentary information with related research to understand how active learning and hobbies affect English skill development. Data verification employed source triangulation and comprehensive content evolution analysis. Research shows that hobby-orientated enactive learning significantly improves English language acquisition. "Tarkam Londo" serves as an interactive learning approach, resulting in greater English proficiency, increased self-efficacy, improved everyday living, prospective job progression, and mastery of enactive abilities. The provision of consistent football commentary evidence enables continuous language practice. Enactive learning via independent experimentation and reflection on failures is essential for identifying effective techniques, supplemented by vicarious learning. This learning method is also relevant in relation to the concept of technopolitics, namely the use of technology for certain purposes, even though it is not explicitly political. The study finds that combining hobbies with enactive learning in making videos is a good and lasting way to learn English, suggesting similar approaches for other hobbies and calling for more research to test how well it works for students learning English and other languages.

Abstract

Persis Solo is an Indonesian Liga 1 football club owned by Kaesang Pangarep, the son of Indonesia’s seventh former president, Joko Widodo. Persis Solo has various supporter groups, one of which is Boys 1923. Boys 1923 is a supporter community that occupies the east stand, gate 8, of Manahan Stadium in Solo. This group embraces a casual ideology and holds the vision and mission of "no leader, just together." This study raises the question: what communication pattern is used by the Boys 1923 supporter community and how is this communication pattern implemented within the community. The purpose of this research is to identify the communication pattern used by the Boys 1923 community and understand how it is implemented. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Boys 1923 adopts a star communication pattern, where all members have equal standing and can influence one another, enabling optimal participation from every member. Strong interpersonal communication also plays a vital role in maintaining member relationships and building mutual trust. The principle of "from members, for members" forms the foundation of solidarity within the group. The applied communication pattern successfully enhances cohesion and cooperation among Boys 1923 members. This is reflected in their commitment to fully support Persis Solo, both at home and away matches, as well as their active participation in social activities. This study shows that an effective communication pattern is a key factor in fostering solidarity, loyalty, and cohesion within the Boys 1923 Persis Solo supporter community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze audience reception of the representation of hegemonic masculinity in the main character of the film Argylle. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using the encoding/decoding reception analysis model. Data were collected through online interviews and literature review. Surveys were distributed randomly to informants to examine audience responses to gender stereotypes in Argylle. Thematic analysis was conducted in four stages: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and critical interpretation. The findings reveal that audience perceptions of Elly Conway's character are divided into three reading positions. Some informants occupy the negotiated reading position, appreciating the portrayal of a strong and independent female character, yet questioning the consistency of the masculine traits depicted. Other informants are in the dominant reading position, accepting Elly’s representation positively as a symbol of women’s empowerment in a spy genre typically dominated by men. Meanwhile, one informant adopts an oppositional reading, considering Elly’s representation less realistic and overly divergent from traditional gender norms. These results indicate that gender is understood as a social construction negotiated based on audience experience and background. The film Argylle serves not only as entertainment, but also as a space for discussion and critical reflection on masculinity and gender representation in popular media.
