Abstract

This research aims to enhance the efficiency and security of the identity verification process for cadets at API Banyuwangi through the implementation of facial recognition technology using the Haar Cascade algorithm. In this study, experimental methods and statistical analysis were used to analyze the data obtained from a series of processing stages, including RGB to grayscale conversion, image resizing, and cropping. Data were collected through facial image acquisition using a webcam and processed to train the model and test the success of the verification system. Statistical analysis shows that preprocessing techniques have a significant impact on verification success, while facial recognition methods are also relevant. However, the data are not normally distributed, indicating the need for alternative analytical approaches. Thus, this research provides valuable insights into the potential of facial recognition technology in enhancing efficiency and security in identity management at educational institutions, while also highlighting the need for further research for the development of methods and deeper understanding.

Abstract

Regional airports increasingly face operational challenges as they accommodate both commercial aviation and pilot training activities within limited infrastructure and airspace. Banyuwangi Airport in East Java, Indonesia, represents a dual-use facility that has adopted a time-based slot allocation system to manage growing traffic from airlines and aviation academies. This study analyzes the structure and effectiveness of the airport’s slot time policy using a qualitative-descriptive approach based entirely on secondary data, including policy documents, operational manuals, and scholarly literature. The findings show that while the policy provides functional time segmentation-allocating daytime hours for commercial operations and nighttime for training-it lacks formal regulatory support and is executed through manual, informal coordination. These limitations are compounded by infrastructural constraints such as a single runway, limited apron capacity, and the absence of digital scheduling tools. Additionally, relegating flight training to nighttime hours compromises the quality of visual flight instruction. The study concludes that although the existing policy reduces immediate operational conflict, it is not sustainable in its current form. Strengthening the policy through regulatory formalization, infrastructure enhancement, and digital slot coordination platforms is essential for ensuring both operational efficiency and the long-term viability of Indonesia’s aviation training sector.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of the integration of seafarers' competencies on the performance of aviation education by adapting the curriculum as a mediating variable at the Indonesian Aviation Academy Banyuwangi. The study uses an explanatory quantitative approach with structural equation modeling analysis based on Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM). Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire of 95 respondents consisting of cadets, instructors, and industry practitioners. The data was analyzed using SmartPLS 4 software to test the validity, reliability, and hypothetical relationships. The results of the study prove that the integration of seafarers' competencies has a significant effect on curriculum adaptation (β = 0.635; p < 0.01) and flight education performance (β = 0.274; p < 0.01). Curriculum adaptation also had a significant effect on the performance of aviation education (β = 0.615; p < 0.01) and acted as an effective partial mediator. The research model was able to explain the variation in flight education performance by 74.2% (R² = 0.742) with a substantive predictive relevance (Q² = 0.439). The integration of seafarers' competencies has been proven to improve the performance of aviation education directly or indirectly through curriculum adaptation. These findings recommend an interdisciplinary approach in the development of aviation vocational education curriculum through cross-sectoral competency integration.

Abstract

Abstract

Crew Resource Management (CRM) is a critical training method in aviation aimed at improving teamwork, communication, risk management, and decision-making to minimize human error, a significant contributor to aviation accidents. While theoretical training builds foundational knowledge, it often lacks practical application necessary to develop operational skills in real scenarios. This study compares CRM training through simulation using the FLOPS Simulator with traditional theoretical instruction, focusing on their impact on Aircraft Operations students’ skills. This quasi-experimental study investigated the effects of theoretical and simulation-based CRM training on operational skills among 24 Aircraft Operations students. Initial CRM knowledge was assessed through a theory test, followed by a first simulation to evaluate students practical CRM skills. Observations and interviews captured their challenges and experiences. A second simulation assessed improvements in operational skills, with data analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative insights from interviews. Results indicate that simulation-based CRM training significantly enhances operational skills, particularly in communication, teamwork, risk management, and decision-making, compared to theoretical training. Simulation provides a more immersive learning experience, allowing the application of CRM principles in near-real operational conditions. This study, conducted at a single institution, highlights the need for broader research involving multiple institutions and long-term assessments to further validate findings. By addressing gaps in CRM training, this research underscores the effectiveness of simulation in aviation education and its potential to improve CRM training practices
