Abstract

Progammable Logic Controller (PLC) is a user friendly, microprocessor-based equipment that contains control functions of various types and levels of complexity. The control system is designed to be able to monitor the value of the power factor to remain stable and can determine the indication of early damage to the capacitor bank. In this research, an automatic control system is designed that can turn on the capacitor bank when the power factor value ≤ 0.95 and turn off the capacitor bank when the power factor value ≥1. HMI can provide data indication of early breakdown of capacitor banks based on the current value of each capacitor. This system utilizes PLC GE, and CE Digital Transducer so that the condition of the capacitor bank can be known in case of damage and decreased efficiency. Based on the test, when the power factor value is 0.95, the program will turn on the capacitor bank to meet the set point value of 0.95 and turn on the alarm indication that the power factor value is not sufficient, when the power factor value exceeds ≥1, the program will turn off the capacitor bank that works longer. The HMI system is able to provide data to perform preventive maintenance activities on a regular basis in order to maintain the efficiency and reliability of capacitor banks.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The surge in adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) within the transportation sector can be attributed to the growing interest in sustainable transportation initiatives. It is imperative to position electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) strategically and distribute generations (DGs) to mitigate the effects of electric vehicle loads. This research employs the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) to optimize the placement of EVCS and DGs alongside network reconfiguration. The backward-forward sweep (BFS) power flow technique is utilized to compute load flow under varying load conditions. The primary objective of this investigation is to minimize power losses and enhance the voltage profile within the system. The proposed approach was tested on IEEE-33 and 69 bus systems and compared with particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) techniques. The simulation outcomes affirm the effectiveness of whale optimization algorithm in determining that integrating 3 EVCS with 3 DGs yields optimal outcomes following network reconfiguration, resulting in a 56.22% decrease in power losses for the IEEE-33 bus system and a 76.13% reduction for the IEEE-69 bus system. The simulation results indicate that the proposed approach enhances system performance across all metrics, showcasing the superior performance of WOA compared to PSO and GA in accomplishing set objectives.

Abstract

Dairi Regency is the largest durian fruit producer in North Sumatra Province with a production of 23 thousand tons per year. One of the largest durian-producing villages in Dairi Regency is Sungai Raya Village. The estimated volume of durian skin waste produced in North Sumatra is 332,712 tons of durian skin per year, this can be seen from the large amount of durian skin waste that accumulates on the side of the road, in rivers, and farmers' gardens. Given the large volume of durian skin, it takes an effort to process durian skin waste into compost that can be used by farmers and can improve the welfare of farmers. The solution for processing durian skin is to build a community-based processing unit for processing durian skin into community-based compost by involving farmer groups. To carry out efforts to manage durian skin waste, a simple tool is needed that functions as a durian skin chopper as a basic material for compost. From the results of the durian skin counting and the dissemination of fertilizer making, farmer groups and the community have been able to make fertilizer from durian skin so that it can increase the income of the population.

Abstract

The manufacture of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) has been carried out with simple methods and equipment in the Semangat Village, Merdeka District, Karo Regency. LOF is made by utilizing waste produced by farmers at the time of post-harvest vegetables such as cabbage, cabbage, carrot leaves and other vegetables. These vegetables can be used because 90% is a liquid. The chopped cabbage waste is mixed with cow rumen and fermented for two weeks, the resulting leachate is fermented again by adding coconut water and LOF is produced which is ready to be used by farmers. With this LOF, farmers can be helped in reducing chemical fertilizers which are quite expensive, so that the costs needed by farmers are less and LOF can increase nutrients in the soil.
