Abstract

Centella asiatica has long been known as one of medicinal plants. Profound study is needed to be able to find out the responses of Pegagan to various treatments in order to increase centelloside content. It was also previously reported that the highest asiaticoside content was found at the lowland pegagan, Pantai Labu. Current study on planted lowland pegagan of Deli Serdang with 2.38% of asiaticoside content was aimed to know the response of the plants to phosphorus fertilizing, elicitorand harvesting time related to biomass production from leaves, petioles, roots and tendrils. Phosphorus fertilizer was applied in four levels: 0, 18, 36 and 54 kg P2O5.ha-1, which affected centelloside synthesis, and elicitor of methyl jasmonate was given at three levels: 0, 100, 200 μM, while harvesting time was set up at 56, 70 and 84 days after planting (DAP). Data showed that the best combination for biomass production was obtained when there was no elicitor and harvesting was done at 84 DAP. The best combination between methyl jasmonate hormone and harvesting period in both fresh weight of leaves and petioles as well as roots was obtained when there was no hormone  and harvesting time was 84 days old.

Abstract

This program is conducted to provide solutions to water conservation and sanitation problems that occur in HKBP Sidorame Private High School. The problem faced by the school is the slow absorption of water around the school yard so that floods often occur when it rains which causes disruption of the teaching and learning process. The service team conducted a site survey, provided socialization and motivation for students regarding the importance of a clean environment. The methods used are repairing damaged waterways and removing waste waste, making bioporous holes at a number of points in the school yard, dismantling and reassembling paving blocks where there were previously closed soil pores, planting plants to accelerate water absorption, renovation of water inlet routes. by increasing the height of the floor which is often the access for water to enter. The results obtained at this time, the school environment is free from puddles when it rains, the waste flow runs smoothly and the school environment is more beautiful. The actions that have been taken are very effective in overcoming the existing sanitation problems and motivate students to care about school hygiene and maintain it on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

The manufacture of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) has been carried out with simple methods and equipment in the Semangat Village, Merdeka District, Karo Regency. LOF is made by utilizing waste produced by farmers at the time of post-harvest vegetables such as cabbage, cabbage, carrot leaves and other vegetables. These vegetables can be used because 90% is a liquid. The chopped cabbage waste is mixed with cow rumen and fermented for two weeks, the resulting leachate is fermented again by adding coconut water and LOF is produced which is ready to be used by farmers. With this LOF, farmers can be helped in reducing chemical fertilizers which are quite expensive, so that the costs needed by farmers are less and LOF can increase nutrients in the soil.

Abstract

Centella Asiatica or Pegagan is classified as one of the wild plants that has not been domesticated. The excessive usage of this plant in traditional and modern medicinal applications threatens its population and sustainability. Thus, to preserve the plant and supply the high request of this plant in agromedicinal industry, studies concerned with the growth and bioactive compounds of Pegagan cultivated under commercial field conditions are urgently needed. This study purposed to examine the bioactive components of Pegagan (especially in leaves and roots) under field conditions, including asiaticoside, madeccasoside, and Asiatic acid. The Pegagan was harvested weeks after planting (WAP). The wet and dry weights of the leaves and roots were weighted and subsequently measured for their centelloside compounds by Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) procedure. The results revealed that the resulting asiaticoside content in the roots (1.25%) was higher than in the leaves (0.88%). The same results were achieved for the madecassoside content where the madecasosside content in the roots was 2.23%, while the content in the leaves was 2.11%. However, contrarily, the Asiatic acid compound in the leaves was 1.10% higher than the content in the roots (0.60%). It might be attributed to a longer period of field cultivation of Pegagan that delivered adequate time for the plant to alter Asiatic acid to asiaticoside and madecasosside at a later developmental growth. Moreover, these discoveries are advantageous in defining the most proper harvest time for commercial field cultivation of Pegagan to yield the highest amount of certain centelloside compounds.
