Abstract

The significant population of street children in Medan City underscores pressing child welfare issues, predominantly driven by economic factors. In response, this study examines the application of behavioural architecture in designing halfway houses and coaching center for street children in Medan. The concept of behavioural architecture seeks to create environments that align with street children's unique behaviours and needs, ensuring both physical and psychological comfort through strategic architectural design, interior spaces, outdoor areas, and circulation plans. This research employs qualitative methods, including data collection through observation, and literature reviews. The findings reveal that incorporating behavioural architecture principles into these facilities' design can significantly enhance street children's living and developmental conditions, providing them with a supportive and nurturing environment.

Abstract

Along with the development of the times, people's markets are starting to be eliminated by the existence of supermarkets, malls and other shopping centers which are considered clean, comfortable, well organized, and also safe. This is also felt by the people's markets in North Tapanuli Regency. As an area that is a center for trade in agricultural products, North Tapanuli Regency still does not have a people's market that meets market building standards, especially the people's market in Tarutung (Onan Tarutung). Human needs that continue to develop require the support of facilities that can accommodate human activities in it. The problems that exist are the lack of awareness of market cleanliness, discomfort, unsafe, not well-organized zoning, and also not accessible to persons with disabilities. The lack of progress in the standard of living of the people in Tarutung has resulted in the slums of the market area continuing to increase so that the existence of people's markets is increasingly inferior to modern shopping centers. Therefore, the rejuvenation and development of the area that will be carried out at Onan Tarutung is through a neo-vernacular architectural approach, not only through physical form but through socio-cultural relations with the environment. The application of neo-vernacular architecture also provides a new function for the development of Onan Tarutung, namely the existence of the 'alaman' concept where sellers can sell in the middle of a mass of buildings which can give a natural impression in accordance with the huta batak concept, as well as the existence of flexible spaces such as plazas that can be used as community for social activities in the form of religious, cultural, and other social events.

Abstract

The design of this shopping center is located on Mongonsidi street, Medan City, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The area on the site is in the center of Medan City, where the surrounding buildings are commercial building areas and densely populated residential areas with the population of Medan City being 2,460,858 people this year. The area on the site has the potential to be used as a place for shopping and recreation. However, this area has limited facilities and infrastructure that is not well organized, especially the lack of greenery in the form of plant vegetation. For the need for activity generators in the site location area, namely on Mongonsidi street, the design that will be created is a mall building in the form of a public business building and as a place for shopping and recreation. The design of the shopping center building uses a Tropical Architecture approach as a green open space and provides adequate lighting so that building users feel more comfortable when carrying out activities inside the building.

Abstract

The design of this high school is a strategy to improve the educational infrastructure in order to produce excellent students. The research method used is descriptive data collection. This method involves collecting, reviewing, and analyzing literature studies relevant to the design topic. A literature study was conducted by conducting a comparative study of several buildings to gain an in-depth understanding of the High School. This high school uses the Biophilic architectural theme to create a better environment that is conducive to the health and well-being of its users and supports the excellent curriculum applied to the school to be designed. Biopilik can be reflected in the physical form of the building and its natural environment. The results show that the application of the concept can be taken from several examples with visible design success, achieving a good concept with a relevant theme as well as possible in order to achieve a building that realizes activities optimally for its users.

Abstract

Medan as the capital city of North Sumatra has rapid economic development, for instance in the creative industry sector. This development is in line with the large productive age rate which reached 69.99% and the increase in intellectual property applications to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights from North Sumatra. The rapid growth of the creative industry and the large number of productive ages require the right platform to encourage further development of the creative industry in the city of Medan. The right place for this is the creative industry center building facility. The facility can be used as a center for creative industry executants to develop their businesses in various ways, such as workshops, exhibitions, seminars, and so on. This facility was designed with a tropical architectural approach in an effort to respond well to the building's environment.
