Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the quality of red bricks in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia with the SNI 15-2094-2000 standard as a reference. The number of red brick samples is 405 from 15 districts. Tests carried out in the form of testing the appearance, size and tolerances, compressive strength, water absorption, and salt content. The results of the analysis of visible properties for uniform color were 80% of the sample, loud when hit 66.7%, 53% right angle, 86.7% flat, and 86.7% uncracked. For size and tolerance as much as 66.6% of the sample does not meet the standard, for an average compressive strength of 100% it does not meet the standard because it is below 5 MPa. The results of water absorption were only 1.9% of the sample which met the standard below 20%, and for the salt content of all. Keywords: red brick, Deli Serdang, compressive strength, SNI 15-2094-2000 standard.

Abstract

This study used waste coconut fibre and HDPE plastic as partial aggregate replacement materials. Coconut fibre ash has pozzolanic properties, which contain high silicate elements. High-density polyethene (HDPE) plastic has more potent, complex, opaque material properties and is more resistant to high temperatures. Superplasticizer is an admixture added to concrete during mixing and during placing to improve its strength performance. This study aims to study the effect of adding HDPE plastic as a substitute for coarse aggregate, coconut fibre ash as a substitute for fine aggregate and Viscrocrete-8670 MN on absorption, concrete compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete. With variations in the addition of BN HDPE plastic, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%, the coarse aggregate passed 3/8 filter retained by filter no 4, 3% coconut fibre ash for each variation of concrete and Viscrocrete-8670 MN by 0.8% by weight of cement. The maximum value for each concrete test is the absorption value of concrete (4.23% for regular concrete), compressive strength (32.49 MPa for 1.5% HDPE concrete), and the modulus of elasticity (3152 MPa for 1.5% HDPE concrete).

Abstract

Abstract: Plastic waste in coastal areas is an urgent issue affecting marine ecosystems, public health, and tourism sustainability. This Community Service Program (PKM) was implemented at Cemara Kembar Beach, Serdang Bedagai Regency, aiming to strengthen community capacity in managing plastic waste through participatory approaches. The methods included beach clean-up, socialization, lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice involving 20 participants consisting of fishermen and local residents. Evaluation was carried out through observation, interviews, and questionnaires two weeks after implementation. The results showed a significant improvement in community awareness, with 80% of residents practicing household waste separation, 60% utilizing household composters, and a 20% reduction in plastic waste volume from an initial 85 kg collected. This program demonstrates that technical and participatory approaches are effective in fostering collective awareness and strengthening community-based environmental management.
