Abstract

Medan City is the third largest city in Indonesia which has a population in 2022 of 2,494,512 people, with a population density of 9,413 people/km2. Based on BPS data in 2022, the number of motorized vehicles in Medan City is 288,378. One of the main problems in Medan is the existence of traffic jams. This study discusses the mapping of road capacity on secondary arterial roads in Medan City. The method used is Web GIS-based mapping which provides mapping information in digital form. The data in the study ar e traffic volume data, road geomic data, and Medan City administration maps. From the results of the study, the large road capacity in the research area was obtained namely Yos Sudarso A Road amounting to 1,485.8 smp / hour, Yos Sudarso B Road amounting to 1,485.8 smp / hour, Putri Hijau Road amounting to 1,744.2 smp / hour, Balai Kota Road amounting to 1,744.2 smp / hour, and Guru Pattimpus Road amounting to 1,679.6 smp / hour.

Abstract

Generally, residential buildings, especially low-rise ones in North Sumatra, are not well planned and built with poor supervision. In its planning, it often overrides the calculation of structural analysis. This residential building is known to have many failures during earthquakes. The research team is interested in studying the important elements in the design and construction of residential buildings, focusing on very crucial structural aspects. By considering these aspects comprehensively, it is hoped that the end result will be a sturdy, functional, and sustainable structural design of a residential building for its occupants.

Abstract

Abstract

The inter-story drift occurs as the result of rotational deformation on the frame’s joint affected by ground shaking. This rotational deformation occurs as an accumulation of bending deformation in beams and columns as well as shear deformation in the panel zone. The goal of this study is to analyze how cyclic non-linear deformation occurs in beam elements and zone panels. The 8-story steel moment resisting frame built on class D soil and designed for seismic design category D were used as model. Incremental nonlinear dynamic analysis was carried out using 20 earthquake ground motions that contained with and without pulse effects. This was done so in order to identify the median value and standard of deviation of the LS, CP, and collapse boundary conditions. Nonlinear flexure and shear deformations that occur in beam element and panel zone were explored. The results obtained show that the rotational deformation of the beam due to actual flexure is greater when compared to the rotational deformation at IDRmax reaches the first time LS and CP boundary conditions. The similar trend occurs in shear deformation of the panel zone.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the impact strength and functional group characteristics, as identified through FTIR spectroscopy, of composite materials reinforced with pineapple leaf powder fibers that have undergone physical property enhancement via alkali treatment (NaOH). A series of processes were conducted to produce the pineapple leaf powder, starting with drying fresh pineapple leaves until they turned brown. The dried leaves were then cleaned and soaked in a 5% NaOH solution for durations of 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 hours to modify their physical properties. After treatment, the leaves were rinsed thoroughly and oven-dried at 60°C for 5 hours. The dried leaves were subsequently ground and sieved using a 150-mesh screen. This study involved two main observations: functional group analysis using FTIR spectroscopy and mechanical performance evaluation through impact testing. A total of 30 composite specimens were prepared and fabricated using a stepwise lamination method, following the ASTM D256 impact testing standard. The results indicate that alkali treatment progressively degraded the hemicellulose and lignin content in the pineapple leaf fibers, significantly enhancing the impact energy absorption of the composite material. However, extended treatment durations adversely affected the fiber quality, leading to structural damage and reduced interfacial cohesion between the composite components.
