Abstract

Advancements in information technology and its central feature of global connectivity permit the exchange of information and interactions among diverse cultures and religions. Social media platforms have released the boundaries of geographical stretch and demographic regions that approve the infiltration of particular mindsets, lifestyles, and behavioral tendencies. The use of social media in the public sphere has led to a distinctive social behavior in the form of lifestyle dubbed flexing. The flexing lifestyle is a behavioral phenomenon to exhibit one's wealth and self-achievement to urge society to be wasteful. This study aims to examine the phenomenon of flexing from the perspective of the Qur'an; analyze the term al-ḥayāt al-dunyā in the verse of QS. al-Ḥadīd [57]: 20. This research employs interpretive-qualitative analysis using a semantic analysis approach designed by Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas in examining conceptual meanings in the Qur'an. The results of this study indicate that flexing is a nefarious consumption behavior in socio-economic theory refers as emulative consumption. This behavior has become a lifestyle and has impacted the community's mode of living. This lifestyle in the Qur'anic term is called al-ḥayāt al-dunyā, semantically a lowly lifestyle. This concept emerges from a semantic analysis of the phrase al-ḥayāt al-dunyā comprising the meanings la'ib (game), lahw (joking), zīnah (things that are dear to human lust), tafākhur (proud of one's achievements in facade of people), takāṡur (competing in the accumulation of wealth), farḥ (momentary happiness), matā' (temporary pleasure), and ghurūr (something that deceives). In the light of the Qur'an, this behavior is a demeanor mode of living, because it disregards the disobedient from remembering God and the afterlife.

Abstract

The modern Western civilization infused with the dominance of humanism and secularism has pushed religion away from being involved in scientific developments. The invested paradigm also devoted and flourished in conventional economics disciplines, and unfortunately, the concept is also attached to Islamic economics. One of the doctrines constructed is the cosmological doctrine, which declares that resources are limited and initiates the most fundamental economic problem, scarcity. This study aims to scrutinize the cosmological presupposition in economics by utilizing the Islamic worldview conceptualized by al-Attas. The method is a descriptive-philosophical examination with a thematic analysis approach. This research reveals that God plays an active role in all myriad layers of creation which necessitates His transcendental association with the cosmos. God has names and attributes that introduce his transcendent and immanent presence in the universe. Terms in the Qur'an such as rizq, ni'mah, minnah, ala', and al-fadhl semantically indicate God's transcendental abundant sustenance in the world. The theo-cosmological concept of the Islamic worldview revealed the reality of Islamic economics perceives that resources have an unlimited source of its transcendence.

Abstract

The issue of Bid'ah is a discussion that has often been debated among Muslims since ancient times until today. This is because there is still a vagueness of the concept of Bid'ah itself, the vagueness causes confusion in its application, giving rise to disputes among Muslims. The Qur'an as the most important source of concepts in Islam has basically drawn the concept of Bid'ah, especially found in QS. Al-Hadid [57]: 27. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the concept of Bid'ah contained in the Qur'an. This research begins by analysing the word 'bid'ah' based on its root word, then defining the terminology of Bid'ah according to the scholars as a reference concept, and finally examining the interpretations of the scholars on the verse that discusses the concept of Bid'ah. The results of this study indicate that the exploration of the concept of Bid'ah based on QS. al-Hadid [57]: 27 illustrates the classification of the concept of Bid'ah which refers to its meaning in language, therefore in this verse, the Bid'ah performed by the perpetrators of Rahbaniyyah is actually considered praiseworthy with the reward (ajr), while the censure (dzamm) refers to those who do not maintain the practice as it should be. In conclusion, the Qur'an recognises the existence of good Bid'ah, as long as it does not contradict the religious texts.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the concept of Homo Economicus which is postulated in conventional economics disciplines, in the light of the Islamic Psycho-economic perspective based on the Attasian paradigm. The research used qualitative library research descriptively with a content analysis approach. The primary data sources are the works of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas whose contents are relevant to the object of study. The results of this study indicate that Homo Economicus is an economic agent that rises from the ideas and experiences of Western civilization and has the personality of al-nafs al-ammarah. Rationality and rational choices are based on self-interest, encapsulated in the paradigm of atomistic individualism and egoistic utilitarianism. The social ethos adopted by Homo Economicus is based on material values that bear consumerism lifestyle and antagonism among other human beings. In contrast, Islam postulates an economic agent as a religious personality who has reached the level of al-nafs al-muthmainnah, has moral and social sensitivity, and aims at the common good of every economic activity.

Abstract

Masyarakat pesisir di Sindulang Dua sangatlah majemuk, dengan kuantitas muslim sebagai minoritas dan tingkat ekonomi berada pada level pra sejahtera, akibatnya muncul berbagai problem sosial-keagamaan seperti lemahnya pengetahuan agama sehingga ada beberapa yang keluar dari Islam, terjadi kekerasan dalam rumahtangga hingga berdampak pada perceraian dan broken home pada anak, bahkan terjadi kriminalitas di wilayah setempat karena faktor kebutuhan ekonomi. Inilah urgensi dilakukannya pengabdian kepada masyarakat di wilayah tersebut dengan fokus pembinaan keluarga bahagia, tahsin al-Qur'an, perbaikan arah kiblat, dan pembinaan ekonomi syari'ah. Metode yang dilakukan adalah penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan pendampingan kepada selupuh orang peserta aktif, dengan pendekatan Asset-Based Community Development. Hasilnya dari sepuluh orang peserta tersebut; mampu memahami dengan baik beberapa norma tentang hak dan kewajiban dalam rumahtangga beserta implikasinya; memahmi dan mempraktikkan kembali tahsin al-Qur'an; perbaikan arah kiblat Musholla Al-Huda berdasarkan ilmu falak dan teknologi modern; dan penyuluhan tentang praktik ekonomi syari'ah beserta pelatihan memproduksi abon cakalang yang halal lagi baik.
