Abstract

We reviewed the outcome for 211 women undergoing a planned en caul (within intact membranes) cesarean section and for 836 control women with conventional lower segment section, in the period 2001–2010 at a university-affiliated hospital in China, where the former technique has been practiced. Of the intended en caul sections there were 141 successful deliveries (66.8%), and 70 that failed and were converted to conventional lower segment cesarean section. Maternal blood loss was similar for both operation types, but the rate of asphyxia was significantly lower among preterm infants delivered by the en caul method than in the control cases. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that the volume of amniotic fluid, a low Bishop score and high birthweight were associated with failed en caul deliveries. Cesarean section en caul can be a safer option than lower segment section when preterm delivery is required. Aretrospective cohort study was conducted inasingle tertiary center, between January 1st, 2007, and December 31st, 2017. The study included 62330 singleton pregnancies delivered after 24 0/7 weeks gestation. Multivariable analyses compared trauma atbirth cesarean sectin, birth hypoxia and birth asphyxia interm and preterm deliveries, stratified by mode ofbirth, VD versus CS. Main outcome measure was trauma atbirth including intracranial laceration and haemorrhage, injuries toscalp, injuries tocentral and peripheral nervous system, fractures toskeleton, facial and eye injury.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a natural process that occurs in that the changes that occur in women during normal pregnancy are physiological in nature. The aim is to determine the effect of pregnancy exercise on the smooth delivery process of primiparous mothers at the BPM Suci Rahmadani Clinic. This research is a cross sectional study using an observational approach. The results of the study showed that of the 50% who participated in pregnancy exercise, 35.4% had normal deliveries, 14.6% had abnormal births. Of the 50% of mothers who did not participate in pregnancy exercise, 11.5% had normal deliveries and 38.5% had abnormal births. Based on the Odds Ratio (OR) value of 8.169, this means that mothers who do not exercise during pregnancy have a risk of abnormal labor of 8.169 times compared to mothers who exercise during pregnancy. It is recommended for mothers to take part in pregnancy exercise at least once a week so that the benefits of pregnancy exercise can be felt to the maximum. It is hoped that the Suci Rahmadani BPM Clinic will make pregnancy exercise one of the pregnancy care program policies, so that pregnant women can feel the benefits of the exercise. well.

Abstract

The morbidity and mortality rates of mothers and children remain critical public health concerns in Indonesia. Posyandu (Integrated Health Service Post), as a Community-Based Health Effort (UKBM), plays a vital role in child health maintenance, especially through mothers' active participation in bringing their toddlers for health services. This study aims to identify the factors associated with mothers’ activeness in bringing toddlers (aged 12–36 months) to Posyandu in Helvetia Village, Sunggal Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency, in 2023. An analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach was employed, involving 72 mothers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of mothers (66.7%) were inactive in taking their toddlers to Posyandu. There was a significant relationship between mothers’ activeness and knowledge (p=0.001), employment status (p=0.000), husband’s support (p=0.000), and attitude (p=0.000). Mothers with good knowledge, who were unemployed, received support from their husbands, and had a positive attitude were more likely to actively attend Posyandu. These findings highlight the importance of educational interventions and social support in increasing mothers’ participation in Posyandu, which is essential for optimizing child growth and development.
