Abstract

It is a historical problem if the Pantecostal Church in Indonesia is generalized as a direct result of the Azusa Street global Pentecostal movement. The academic argument of this paper explains, that church, (where W.H. Offiler and W.W. Patterson are the pioneers from American stream even for other Pentecostals today), has its own wordview and is popular in the American Pacific Northwest, it cannot be generalized. Through literature study research using qualitative source criticism techniques, and by prioritizing primary sources, and using socio-religious movement theory, the answer to why, and in what social setting in America and Indonesia, the ideas of Pantecostalism emerged, here is being presented. This provides a new understanding, the history of the idea of religious man is also the history of the Americanization of Pantecostals in the world and even Indonesia. It should be seen, Pantecostals have their own modes of religiousity in their uniquely enterprises to form a theological identity and religious mode although there are similarities with others. Pantecostal studies with GPdI as the focus of study of transnational religious social movements saving sinners are fit to put in the study of Pentecostalism and global religious studies.

Abstract

In this article, we delve into the topic of how religious communities in Indonesia have adapted to the rise of information, technology, and communication. Specifically, we observe the Nias community in Ulu Moro'o District in West Nias Regency, North Sumatra, utilizing a religious psychoanalytic approach. Using grounded theory as a data theorization method, this empirical qualitative research sheds light on the social problems that technology has created in terms of spirituality and emotional tension among indigenous and religious communities. However, it has also served as a mechanism for comforting oneself over past events such as natural disasters. Furthermore, this article proposes a theology of social change in church, society, and customs as a distinct scientific discipline. It recognizes indigenous and religious communities as living social texts that result from self-awareness, imagination, reasoning, and daily life experiences, influencing their attitudes towards the church in changing times, particularly due to the digitization of traditional villages.

Abstract

Indonesia is a remarkable unitary republic, enriched by its diverse people, religions, and races. It's essential to recognize the value of this diversity that makes up the 1001 faces of Indonesia. However, there are still instances of pain caused by the elimination of one group by another. In an effort to bridge this gap, Julianus Mojau has written a collection of popular writings that reflect on the struggles of the Indonesian Protestant faith. Through his reflections, he shares his insights and experiences on the idea of Indonesian social struggle from 2005-2018, emphasizing the intersection between Christian faith and politics in Indonesia. Julianus is an excellent example of academics and practitioners who take a courageous path towards caring for the face of Indonesia. By bridging the differences in religion, ethnicity, aspirations, and political ideology, they strive to strengthen Indonesia's national and state identity.

Abstract

Pencak  Silat  is  no  longer  limited  to  martial  arts  but  goes  far  beyond  this.  Suppose  it  is  generally  understood  as  a  martial  art  commonly  called  Sile.  In  that  case,  it  needs  to  be  seen from the socio-theological praxis of the people of Moro’ö District, West Nias Regency, and the people of Tugala Oyo District, North Nias Regency, where they are Nias people in general  who  tend  to  believe  traditionally  based  on  customs,    as  well  as  Christian  church  congregations,  including  Muslims.  This  article  delves  into  Nias’  traditional  pencak  silat  in  2022-2023.  The  empirical  problem  in  Christianity  is  that  there  is  a  tendency  to  label  synchronicity  that  pencak  silat  as  a  traditional  rite  for  primitive  people,  has  always  been  associated with an attempt to display the dimension of “evil spirits” as opposed to the “good spirits”  in  the  Christian  faith  with  the  modern  eyes  of  urban  people.  Meanwhile,  Muslims  tend to be positioned as immigrants. This paper is in the social setting of North and West Nias as a research field, and it is carried out with empirical qualitative research with a socio-theological approach. Data were collected by observation, interview, and documentation. It was found that there is an increasing immersion in cultural arts expressed through pencak silat as a social space (medium) for people of different faiths and traditions. It was found that North and West Nias Sile displayed spatial negotiations between culture and religion.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The paper presents Pantecostal missiology both historically, teaching and learning processes, as well as more recent empirical data. By not dismissing the problems and criticisms from scholars who doubted whether Pantecostalism really had a missiology, and doubted the process of learning about it in Christian religious higher education, here is narrated the dynamics of Pantecostal missiology. This paper presents the Pantecostal Church in Indonesia (PCiI or GPdI) and many things that surround it, the history of its formation since January 6, 1906 in the era of the Dutch East Indies as the object of study. To build a solid argument, based on the finding that there really is a Pantecostal missiology, we use a combined research method of quantitative empirical through a questionnaire survey for the need for a postgraduate thesis and qualitative based on primary data sources from the GPdI senior figures themselves and literature from other researchers as secondary sources. The paper is useful as a conceptual framework for the Indonesian academic field, namely Pantecostal missiology and Christian religious education which has never been the object of study so far that is useful for Christian religious higher education and global studies of Pantecostalism which is currently growing in the international academic arena.
