Abstract

(Objectives) This study aims to explore the experiences, values of happiness, and impacts of participation in the Call for Paper (CFP) and Call for Best Practice (CFBP) events organized by the Indonesian Higher Education Library Forum (FPPTI) during the 2nd International Conference of Indonesian Higher Education Libraries (KPPTI). (Method) A qualitative research approach with a phenomenological method was employed. Data were collected through interviews using open-ended questionnaires, observations, documentation, and literature reviews. The open-ended questionnaire was distributed to participants via WhatsApp groups specifically created for CFP and CFBP attendees. Data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), which involved stages such as preparing the questionnaire, taking initial notes, identifying emergent themes, formulating superordinate themes, establishing patterns across participants, and reporting findings. (Finding) The study identified five dimensions of happiness based on the PERMA framework: (a) Positive Emotions, reflected in feelings of enthusiasm, joy, pride, happiness, optimism, and satisfaction; (b) Engagement, demonstrated by the ability to submit work and present it publicly; (c) Relationships, evidenced through research collaborations; (d) Meaning and Purpose, illustrated by knowledge and experience sharing; and (e) Accomplishment and Achievement, reflected in increased publications supporting career advancements. Key benefits of participating in CFP and CFBP include enhanced writing and presentation skills, improved personal and institutional branding, sharing ideas and experiences, boosted confidence, self-actualization, expanded networking opportunities, and personal growth through breaking routines. These findings suggest that the happiness derived from such activities can enhance librarians' productivity in scientific writing and encourage continued participation in similar events with enthusiasm and positivity.

Abstract

Background of the Study: This study explores how part-time university library workers interpret gratitude while balancing their dual roles as students and employees. Libraries are not only hubs for information and academic services but also provide a work environment for students to gain work experience. Objectives:  This research aimed to understand the meaning of gratitude among part-time student workers in university libraries and how gratitude contributes to their psychological well-being while fulfilling academic and work responsibilities. Method: This study used a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with students who had completed their coursework and were in the process of writing their final projects. The collected data were analyzed using Ryff’s theory of psychological well-being and Emmons’ concept of gratitude. Finding: The findings reveal that gratitude is not merely a reaction to positive experiences but a meaningful attitude that supports psychological well-being. Eight key factors were found to foster gratitude among part-time student workers: (1) job opportunities aligned with personal interests, (2) social support, (3) skill development, (4) financial stability, (5) time management ability, (6) appreciation for work, (7) independence and responsibility, and (8) acceptance of challenges. These factors correspond to Ryff’s six dimensions of psychological well-being and reinforce Emmons’ idea of gratitude as a psychological strength. Overall, part-time work experience helps students develop resilience, adaptability, and a sense of purpose. Conclusion: From the results of this study, it can be concluded that gratitude functions not only as an emotional response but also as a positive mindset that enables part-time student workers to face the pressures of dual roles with composure and emotional balance. Further quantitative research and studies across various types of part-time work are needed to strengthen these findings.

Abstract

This research is qualitative research with case studies, using ERG (Existence, Relatedness, Growth) theory to analyze the motivation of librarians in following the call for paper (CFP) and call for best practice (CFBP). This study aims to determine the motivations, factors, and obstacles librarians face when participating in these activities. The results showed that 13 librarians had experience participating in CFP and CFBP activities. Librarian motivation has fulfilled the ERG motivation theory. The Existence category includes the existence and welfare of institutions and the profession's demands. The Relatedness category includes networking and knowledge sharing, while the Growth category includes self-actualization, achievement, rewards, and competency development. Factors that influence librarian motivation include internal factors such as self-development, love to write and try new things, increased experience, self-satisfaction, and existence. External factors include performance for the fulfillment of credit and portfolio figures, library accreditation, promotion of institutions, getting welfare from institutions, competitions, friend invitations, and the theme and location of seminars. However, librarians face several obstacles, such as limited time, funding, licensing bureaucracy, difficulty finding writing partners, finding references, lack of confidence, nervousness during presentations, and lack of enthusiasm for writing. This research provides valuable insights for the professional development of librarians and increases their participation in scholarly activities. It is expected that librarians will be more active in participating in scientific activities to increase the productivity of scientific work that impacts themselves and institutions.

Abstract

The library is a professional work environment where library personnel are engaged in static and repetitive activities, which pose a risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) that can affect staff well-being and service quality. This study addresses the issue of occupational health among library staff from an ergonomic perspective, focusing on the risk of musculoskeletal complaints resulting from static workloads and suboptimal working postures. The study aims to describe the characteristics of library personnel at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Library, identify the level of MSD complaints, analyze the relationship between ergonomic risk factors (sitting duration, working hours, and body mass index) and MSDs, and examine the implications for human resource management policies in libraries to improve information service quality. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, a case study method, and the Nordic Body Map questionnaire administered to 32 library staff, data were analyzed using Spearman correlation tests. The results show that working hours (p=0.009; r=0.456), sitting duration (p=0.044; r=0.359), and body mass index (p=0.043; r=0.360) have significant correlations with MSD complaints, which are most commonly reported in the upper neck, lower back, and right shoulder areas. These findings highlight the urgency for library management to integrate ergonomic principles into human resource management policies, including workspace design, task scheduling, and occupational health programs. Optimizing the physical health of library personnel not only helps reduce MSDs but also enhances productivity, job satisfaction, and the overall quality of information services in modern libraries.
