Abstract

This article will explore the educational value of Johan Vincent Galtung's thoughts on conflict resolution that he offers in breaking down gender-based violence. As many people already know that gender issues are very closely related to discussions about violence. Apart from direct violence, Galtung emphasized another form of violence, namely structural violence, which was not carried out by individuals but hidden in smaller and wider structures. Penetration, segmentation, marginalization and fragmentation, as part of exploitation are reinforcing components in structures that function to block formation and mobility from struggling against exploitation. Johan Galtung's thinking is in line with the thinking of radical feminists. Galtung claims patriarchy as direct, structural and cultural violence. Patriarchy creates a dichotomy between public and private roles, productive and reproductive, which forms an unequal power relations between men and women. As a peace activist, the educational value of conflict resolution offered by Galtung was considered quite wise. Violence is not only done by men, but also by women. According to him, what should be hated is patriarchy, not men. Various forms of violence can be eradicated and replaced with peace. If everyone agrees not to commit physical violence, in which there is gender based violence, then everyone will also get peace.

Abstract

Education is currently increasingly directing students toward a passion for competition. Competitive model education can blunt emotional and spiritual intelligence to inhibit the growth of vibrant and affective traits in student personalities. Therefore, the Dimensions of Sufism in education can function as an alternative to stem the disruption and problems of millennial education. This study uses a multi-case study type of Higher Education in East Java, Indonesia. The dimensions of Sufism in Islamic religious education in higher education show their uniqueness. The unique fact is the teaching of Sufism at Darul Ulum University (UNDAR) Jombang, which prioritizes the teaching of the Trisula course with three pillars: the concept of boarding schools, Sufi order, and campus. Sufism values are taught in all study programs and are internalized practically through the ritual of the Sufi order in the structured campus activity program. At the same time, the uniqueness of Sufism teaching in the other six higher educations emphasizes the basis of the cluster in the field of science. This study argues that the injection of Sufism values into the structure of the higher education curriculum is a primary need to equip intellect intelligence to control themselves against the dynamics of life.

Abstract

Intolerance is still a socio-religious problem that leads to ongoing conflict. Intolerance gives birth to individualist attitudes, fanaticism, and communal legitimacy. In pluralist and multiculturalist countries, tolerance has not found strong, solid roots, especially withstanding changing times. Tolerance is often temporary, easily ignited by stigma and internal motives. However, in Jombang Regency, as a miniature showcase for a portrait of tolerant religious attitudes, it can survive convincingly amid modernity. Adherents of Islam, Catholics, Protestants, and Hindus can be tolerant under any conditions. Therefore, this research seeks to explore the ideological conception of religious diversity in Jombang as a manifestation of the ideal depiction of tolerance. This article is based on qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Durkheim's social system theory is used as an analytical tool. Primary data was obtained from three religious adherents from religious and community figures. The research results revealed three things: 1) The genealogy of the religious tolerance values of Jombang society between Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism converges on the values of tasamuh, blessings, and the cult of God. 2) the resilience of tolerance amid modernity is created by a robust social structure, namely the genealogy of religious values, forming traditions, and the externalization of religious behavior. 3) religious transvalues create a tolerant categorization of religion, namely the connectivity of religious genealogy, internalization of religious traditions, and externalization of religious attitudes.

Abstract

This study critically evaluates the concept of integration within Islamic knowledge to formulate a model of integrative competencies for students at IAIN Kediri, using al-Ghazali’s epistemology as a critical instrument. This study applies al-Ghazali’s integrative epistemology to develop student competencies as agents of knowledge integration within Islamic higher education, formulated through learning design and curriculum implementation. Using a qualitative approach, the research draws on primary sources from al-Ghazali’s works, particularly Ihya’ Ulum al-Din, and secondary data from IAIN Kediri’s institutional documents as well as interviews with the academic community of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Da’wah (FUDA). The findings reveal that FUDA students’ intellectual tradition remains predominantly orthodox and value-oriented, indicating that epistemic integration between religious and modern sciences has yet to be fully achieved. The application of al-Ghazali’s epistemology within the curriculum leads to an integrative competence development model encompassing three dimensions: intellectual-transcendental (mastery of both religious and scientific knowledge in learning outcomes), social-ethical (the practical application of knowledge for public benefit as reflected in course outputs), and moral-axiological (the formation of character and social responsibility through student community engagement). Al-Ghazali’s integrative framework introduces a new paradigm in the design of integrative curricula, in which both religious and general education are grounded in the concept of living tauhidi (monotheism), the belief in God as the ultimate source of knowledge, supported by three integrative pillars: revelation, ethics, and social engagement. This foundation is contextualized within modern pedagogical goals, materials, and methods that are responsive to contemporary educational challenges.
