Abstract

                                               ABSTRACT     This research attempts to describe and analyze the kinship terms of English and Mori Language (Analysis Contrastive). English and Mori language are two different groups of language which have specific patterns of kinship terminologies. Both languages have a special set of terms to indicate the kinship relations. This research aims to compare and contrast the analysis between English and Mori Language and using Lado’s (1957) concept as well as using descriptive method by Burling (1971) in which the kinship terms are characterized as “consanguinal” and “afinal.” The writer also used the method of Wardaugh, Burling and Loundsburry quoted in Leech to find out the similarities and differences between the languages. The data of English were collected from several relevant text books, and severalreliable sources from the internet, and the data of Mori Language were collected from informants through interview. The result of this research shows that both English and Mori Language have similarities in terms of sex, generation and lineage. The difference is that the English kinship terms give distinctions on the sex of all the relatives of in ego, while Morilanguage only has on severalrelatives of in ego. In generation, both of this languages have same generation such as four generations above and below ego.Keywords: Kinship terms of English and Mori Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

                                            ABSTRACTThis research entitled “Prepositions in the Book of Proverbs”. It is to identify, classify, analyze, and describe the forms and the meanings of prepositions in the book of Proverbs. In analyzing the data, the writer used theory based on Aarts and Aarts theory (1982) to identifying classifying the forms of preposition and Marcella Frank‟s theory (1972) in analyzing and describe the meaning of preposition as a part of descriptive method. The data were taken from the book of Proverbs. The form of prepositions that founded in the book of Proverbs, such as simple prepositions consist of : after, as, at, before, by, for, from, like, in, near, of, on, through, till, up and with, whereas complex prepositions consist of : because of, for the purpose of, in front of, out of, up down and up to. The meaning of prepositions that founded, consist of: time, place or position, direction, cause or reason, purpose, accompaniment, comparison, means, manner, in the capacity of, material, source, separation, apposition, characterized by, exception and example.Keywords: Prepositions, Forms and Meanings, The Book of Proverbs

Abstract

                                            ABSTRACT        The title of this skripsi is “Salam dan Ungkapan Perpisahan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Mongondow: Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The aims of this study are to identify, classify, and contrast the forms of greetings and leave takings in English and Mongondow Language in order to find out the similarities and differences between the two languages. In this research, the writer uses descriptive method according to Suryana, sociolinguistic theory of greetings and leave takings by Wardhaugh and contrastive analysis by Lado. Greetings and leave takings in English and Mongondow Language have similarities and differences. For instance, both English and Mongondow Language have two forms, they are formal and informal forms. Greetings and leave takings in English Language have a lot of variations whereas Mongondow Language just has a little bit variations. The difference between English and Mongondow Language is Mongondow Language has special greetings for welcoming guests in a formal situation, but in English Language there is no special greetings for welcoming guests, The research shows that it is important to say greeting and leave taking in our daily conversation and hoped to give additional informations for students of linguistics and other readers who are interested in learning about greeting and leave taking especially in Mongondow Language.------------------------------------------------------Keywords : Greetings and leave takings, English and Mongondow Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

                                             ABSTRACT        This title of this research is “Salam dan Ungkapan Perpisahan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Jepang: “Contrastive Analysis”. The aims of this study are to identify, describe and contrast the forms and pattern of greetings and leave-takings in English and Japanese Language. This research uses descriptive method and contrastive analysis. The data in English were collected from books related to sociolinguistics, book of speaking, and source from internet. The data in Japanese Language were collected by doing direct and indirect interview, and source from internet. The data were analyzed by using the conseptsof Fishman, and Wardhaugh. The result of this research shows that greetings and leave-takings in English and Japanese Language have two forms which are formal and informal. In addition, the writer finds that there are three patterns in English and Japanese Language on greetings. Those patterns are mutual formal greetings, mutual informal greetings and the non mutual greetings. The patterns of English leave-taking are the same as their greetings. On the other hand, Japanese Language has only two patterns of non mutual leave-takings, formal and informal. Greetings and leave-takings in English and Japanese Language have differences. For instance, greetings and leave-takings in English are various. Meanwhile in Japanese language are limited.Keywords : Greetings and leave-takings English, Japanese Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

                                                  ABSTRACT        This research entitles “Aspek Sopan Santun Ujaran dalam Film Kingsman Karya Matthew Vaughn: Suatu Analisis Pragmatik”. In this research, the writer focuses on the polite utterance as one aspect of behavior which is found in the film Kingsman. The aims of this research are to identify and classify the kinds of maxims as well as to analyze the functions of maxims used in the film Kingsman. The writer categorized them into their suitable maxims using the theory of Leech (1983). The method used in this study is a descriptive method. In collecting the data the writer has watched 6 times Kingsman film which is the object of this research. The result of this research shows that based on the theory of Leech (1983), there are six kinds of maxims, namely tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim. There are 3 utterances that function as tact maxim, 6 utterances that function as generosity maxim, 11 utterances that function as approbation maxim, 5 utterances that function as modesty maxim, 4 utterances that function as agreement maxim, 3 utterances that function as sympathy maxim. It is expected that this study can help the students and readers in learning politeness aspects of using language.Keywords: Politeness Aspects, Pragmatic, Film Kingsman

Hetty Pelealu, S.H., M.Hum3      This research is entitled “Negative Sentences in the Song Lyrics in the album No.6 Collaboration Project by Ed-Sheeran.” The objectives of this research are to identify, classify and analyze forms of negative sentences and also to describe the functions and categories of someSong Lyrics. This research uses descriptive method. In analyzing the data, the writer used Aarts and Aarts (1982) and Thomson dan Martinet (1968: 107) theories and the data were taken from Ed-Sheeran‟s song lyrics in album No.6 Collaboration Project (2019). The results of this research shows that there are 130 negative sentences found in song lyrics in album No.6 Collaboration Project (2019). The forms of negative sentences consist of negative sentences which are formed of the word not (49), negative sentences that contain periphrastic do (45), negative sentences with negative expression (36). Negative sentences formed of the word not that contains dare, need, and used, and negatif sentence with negative expression none, hardly and hardly ever, are not found in this research. TheFunctions found are Subject (Su), Predicator (P), Direct Object (DO), Adverbial (A), andcomplemen. Categories found are Noun Phrase (NP), Verb Phrase (VP), Adjective Phrase (Adj. P), and Prepositional Phrase (Prep. Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT             This research entitled An Analysis Lexical Cohesion in Podcast “If You Keep Your Mouth Shut, You’ll Be Surprised What You Can Learn” Podcast By S.Town is the requirement to accomplish the Bachelor Degree at Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. The objectives of this research are to identify,clasify and analyze descriptively the aspects of lexical cohesion on the Podcast S.Town. The theory used in this research is from Halliday and Hasan (1976). The theory focused on the aspects of lexical cohesion. The lexical cohesion consisted of reiteration (repetition, synonym, antonym, hyponym, meronymy) and collocation. The Podcast is taken from one of podcast episode in www.Stownpodcast.com. The result of this research shows that there are 53 lexical cohesion items consisting of 47 reiteration (15 repetition, 8 synonimy, 8 antonimy, 11 meronimy, and 5 hyponimy) and 6 colocation items.Keyword: Cohesion, Lexical, Podcast

Abstract

                                                ABSTRACT      The study is an attempt to describe and analyze the nicknames in English and Mongondow language. The objectives of the research are to identify, classify, and to analyze the kinds and the meanings of the nicknames in English and Mongondow language based on its category then to contrast them. Hence, the similarities and differences of nicknames can be found in both languages. The concept of the nicknames used in this research has been adopted from Hickerson and Przecha’s concepts. Observation participation method is used in this research by interacting with people in Maelang who speak Mongondow Language. The English data have been collected from English textbook and website. Theoretically, this research can enrich the knowledge in terms of etnholinguistic study, especially about nicknames in English and Mongondow language. Practically, this research can give information and motivate the readers in identifying the nicknames of other languages. The result shows that the nicknames in English and Mongondow language have similarities in terms of nicknames in related to (1) name is a virtue, (2) surnames as given names, (3) surnames as nicknames, (4) baptismal names. Besides, these two languages have also connotational and associational meaning.--------------------------------------Keywords : Nicknames, English and Mongondow Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

                                                    ABSTRACT              This study entitled “Idioms in English and Tombulu Language (A Contrastive Analysis)”. Idiom cannot be interpreted each word but must be interpreted as a whole by combining the meaning of each word or context of the conversation. This study focuses on idiomatic expressions in English and Tombulu Language. The aims of this research is to identify, classify and analyze the types and meaning of idiom in English and Tombulu Language, and to find out the similarities and differences of both languages. The writer used theory from Fernando (1996), Leech (1981) and contrasted the two languages using Lado’s (1975) concept. The results of this study shows that there are three types of idiom in Tombulu language, they are: Pure idioms, semi-idioms and literal idioms. Abstract

                                                    Abstract         This research entitled “Convivial in the Film Kingsman by Mathew Vaughn”. Convivial act as a part of Illocutionary is not only found in our daily life, but also in literary studies such as novel, drama, short stories, novella and film. The aims of this research are to identify, classify, and analyze the utterances and the function of convivial in the Kingsman film. This research used a descriptive method. The data were collected from conversation among characters, then they identified, classified and analyzed they are according to the concept of Leech (1983). The research showed that the convivial act can be categorized into five categories, those are offering, inviting, greeting, congratulating, and thanking, and how the function of convivial act used by the characters. It is expected that this study will help students and readers in learning pragmatics especially on convivial functions found in the film. _____________________________________Keywords: Convivial Act, Pragmatic, Film Kingsman
