Abstract

Urfu Bay is a relatively new marine tourism destination and quite a favorite among the people of Biak Numfor. The Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS) of Urfu Village is developing mangrove tourism. At the same time, scientific data is not yet available on the area's suitability level and the environment's carrying capacity for mangrove tourism activities. Hence, this research must be carried out to support the sustainable management of Urfu Bay mangrove tourism. The objectives of this study are: (1) knowing the tourism suitability index (IKW); and (2) knowing the carrying capacity of the Urfu Bay mangrove ecosystem (DDK). The study time is six months, which is April to September 2023. This research is located in the mangrove ecosystem of Urfu Bay, Biak Numfor Regency. The research method used is a survey, while random sampling techniques, observation, interviews, and literature studies carry out data collection. The results showed that the mangrove ecosystem of Urfu Bay: (1) Very suitable as a mangrove tourism area with a tourism suitability index (IKW) value of 2.85; and (2) Has an Area Carrying Capacity (DDK) of 381 people per day. This study concludes that the mangrove ecosystem of Urfu Bay is very suitable and prospective for developing mangrove tourism.

Abstract

The catch from fishermen in the Hamadi village is currently sold fresh at the beach or taken to the Hamadi Fish Auction Place (TPI) for sale. The most abundant catch is yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares). Based on interviews with the fishermen's wives in Hamadi Village, the main issues they face are a lack of skills and technology, as well as tools and materials for processing fish products. During the fish abundance season, the fishermen's wives sell fish at lower prices due to a lack of knowledge about fish product processing and limited raw materials. The target of this activity is the fishermen's wives in Hamadi Village. The proposed solution is to conduct training on making tuna chips using moringa leaves as an additional ingredient. The community service activity took place on August 14, 2024, and was attended by 15 participants. The methods used were socialization and training (demonstration). The outcome of this community service activity was that participants gained knowledge and experience about the process of processing yellowfin tuna into fish chips (80%).  Keywords: JAS Fishermen's wives; Hamadi; Chips Moringa; Tuna

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the effect of the traditional conservation system "Tiyaitiki" toward populations and diversity of rabbit fish (family Siganidae) in Tablasupa Coastal Area, Jayapura Regency. By hypothesis Tiyaitiki system is very effective in enhancing the functioning of ecosystems, populations, and species diversity of rabbitfish. Using the method of VES and transect lines, spacious observation area is 81,000 m2. The data were analyzed using diversity index Shannon-Wiener (H '), Index Evenness (E), Index dominance Simpson (D) and Population Density (PD). The result showed Tablasupa Coastal area has 10 rabbit fish species and 873 individuals. The level of diversity is categorized as moderate or 1.7 and the population is more likely to be uniform, as well as population density tend to be moderate. The increasing number of rabbitfish species and populations affected by the increase of live coral cover and increased density of seagrass by the system Tiyaitiki in Tablasupa Coast. Tiyaitiki traditional conservation system capable of triggering an increase in the ecological function of seagrass and coral reefs, which significantly affected the growth of population and the diversity of fish species in the waters Rabbitfish family Siganidae in Tablasupa Coastal area. Keywords: Rabbit fish, Tablasupa, Tiyaitiki, Jayapura
