Abstract

Ketiga variabel tersebut diukur menggunakan Marriage and Relationship Questionnaire (MRQ), World Health Organization Quality of Life–BREF (WHOQOL-BREF), dan Subjective Happiness Scale (SHS).

Abstract

Resilience is one of the important factors that can protect adolescents from overcoming the difficulties and challenges in life. This research aimed to examine the overview of resilience among adolescents in terms of gender. The respondents in this study were 342 teenagers aged 15-18 years, consisting of 202 females and 140 males. Data collection was conducted using the Child Youth Resilience Measure-Revised (CYRM-R) instrument, with non-experimental method. The collected data were analyzed using independent sample t-test to compare between adolescent females and males. The result of this study showed that 55% of the total number of respondents had a high level of resilience, while the remaining 45% had it at a low level. Similar results were also observed in the personal resilience subscale (54.7% high; 45.3% low) and the caregiver resilience subscale (52.3% high; 47.7% low). Further, the findings of this study indicated a significant difference between the levels of resilience in female and male adolescents, where the resilience score of female adolescents (mean = 68.75) were higher than those of males (mean = 66.64). Similar findings were observed in the personal resilience subscale, showing a significant difference in which female adolescents had higher scores compared to male adolescents. However, no significant difference was found in the caregiver resilience subscale, where the scores were relatively comparable. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the understanding of resilience profiles in adolescents and the factors behind their resilience capabilities.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is a phenomenon that mental health scholars have not fully understood, which might adversely affect parenting. Previous studies have found that sociodemographic factors influence parenting stress in non-pandemic conditions. However, no study has discussed parenting stress during the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the present study investigates the sociodemographic factors influencing parenting stress during the Covid-19 pandemic. Using a cross-sectional approach, we applied convenience sampling using online platforms to recruit the participants. Seven hundred ninety parents aged 20-57 participated in this study (mothers = 740, fathers = 50). The validated Indonesian version of the Parenting Stress Scale was administered online to measure parenting stress. The results identified that mothers experienced parenting stress more than fathers (t(788) = -2.83; p = 0.005; d = -3.28; 95% CI [-5.55; -1.00]). Furthermore, it revealed that financial condition was the only predictor of the parenting stress experienced by fathers (β = 0.39, p = 0.02). Apart from the financial condition, working status (β = -0.08, p = 0.04), educational background (β =-0.10, p = 0.02), and marital status (β = 0.13, p = 0.00) also predicted the level of parenting stress in mothers. Several sociodemographic variables associated with maternal parenting stress indicate the necessity of interventions to promote mothers' mental health, who are more prone to parenting stress than fathers.

Abstract

Since the end of 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic has been experienced in various countries, including Indonesia. The existence of measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 has an impact on physical activity and policies on implementing Distance Learning (PJJ) for students ranging from elementary school to college levels. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the mental health of adolescents during the Covid-19 pandemic and the sociodemographic factors that influence adolescent mental health. The study involved 205 participants aged 15-18 years. The data were collected using a validated General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) self-assessment measurement tool in Indonesia. The results showed that 59.5% of adolescents experienced psychological problems in the form of psychological distress and social dysfunction. Girls and adolescents who experience changes in sleep hours have a greater tendency to experience psychological problems. So that during the pandemic, teenage girls need more attention than boys, sleep patterns also need to be considered so as not to have an impact on psychological distress and social dysfunction during the pandemic.
