Abstract

Penjalin water reservoir in Brebes Regency, Central Java, is one of the habitats of the sand goby. A study on its genetic diversity using approaches of isozyme analysis was needed to support domestication of the fish in this area. This study was aimed at the biochemical-genetic variation of sand goby population in Penjalin water reservoir based on esterase (EST), peroxidase (PER), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), aspartate amino-transferase (AAT), and acid phosphatase (ACP) polymorphisms. Visualization of the isozymes was carried out employing horizontal electrophoretic technique with potato starch gel and buffer system of L-histidin monohydrate. Of the five isozymes, ACP was not well-visualized in all samples tested while the remaining four showed no polymorphisms. It could be concluded that there is no biochemical-genetic variation of sand goby population in Penjalin water reservoir based on isozymes of EST, PER, MDH, and AAT.

Abstract

Blue panchax (Aplocheilus panchax Hamilton, 1822) lives in broad ranges of habitat from open waters to closed waters, including at ex-tin mining pits in Bangka Island, Indonesia. Variable habitats might cause morphological variations due to different ecological factors. This study aimed to assess the morphological variation of blue panchax collected from different habitats using truss morphometric characters. Fish samples (70 individuals) were collected from abandoned ex-tin mining pits of different ages and a river in Bangka Island. Twenty-nine truss characters were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and post hoc with Dunn’s test . The results showed that almost all of the body parts of blue panchax found in ex-tin mining pits and rivers were significantly different (p-value < 0.05), except some truss characters of caudal peduncle. The post hoc of Dunn’s test showed a positive correlation between habitats and truss characters (adj. sig < 0.05). Some truss characters of killifish were different between ex-tin mining pits with different ages chronosequence, and some other characters were different between pits and river.  This study provides the first data about the morphological variation of blue panchax in ex-tin mining pits of different ages. The data is valuable as a scientific basis of further utilization of ex-tin mining pits in the areas.

Abstract

Burung adalah anggota kelompok hewan bertulang belakang yang tergolong kedalam classis aves. Burung berperan penting dalam komponen ekosistem untuk mendukung berlangsungnya suatu siklus kehidupan organisme. Keanekaragaman spesies burung yang tinggi didukung oleh tingginya keanekaragaman habitat yang berfungsi sebagai tempat mencari pakan, minum, istirahat, dan berkembang biak. Nusakambangan adalah sebuah pulau dengan luas 240 km2 dengan tipe hutan alam dataran rendah, hutan pantai dan hutan bakau. Penelitian pada tahun 2003 dan 2004. Nusakambangan bagian barat memiliki 93 spesies burung dan pada tahun 2006, spesies burung pada tipe habitat hutan pantai berpasir, hutan pamah, hutan bukit kapur, padang ilalang, belukar muda, dan belukar tua terdapat 121 spesies burung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman spesies burung di Cagar Alam Nusakambangan Timur. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode survei dengan teknik point count. Analisis data dilakukan deskriptif sederhana kemudian ditampilkan dalam bentuk tabel. Terdapat 46 spesies burung dari 25 famili dengan indeks keanekaragaman 2,5456 dan indeks dominansi 0,1027. Kata kunci : burung, cagar alam Nusakambangan, keanekaragaman, spesies.

Abstract

Mene maculata has high economic value and does not have sexual dimorphism. Therefore, in order for the population to be sustainable, information on the biology of male and female M. maculata fish is needed as a basis for management. The aim of the study was to determine the morphological performance, truss morphometrics, and lenght-weight relationship of male and female M. maculata. The research method is a survey and purposive random sampling in TPI PPS Cilacap. The observed variables were morphological performance, truss morphometrics and the lenght-weight relationship. The parameters measured are the truss distance in a ratio of the standard length. Truss morphometrics measured is the ratio between the truss distance of 15 points. Morphological performance was analyzed descriptively, truss morphometrics measurements were analyzed by t-test and the length-weight relationship was analyzed by correlation and regression tests. The results showed that morphological performance could not be used as a differentiator, while truss morphometrics could be used as a differentiator, namely at the base of the front of the anal fin to the base of the back of the anal fin, the male M. maculata was longer than the female. The results of the correlation test for the length and weight of male and female M. maculata both showed a closeness of 0.505 and 0.648; R values ​​for males 25.5% and females 42% and growth types of male and female M. maculata were allometric negative with b values ​​1.445 and 1.764.

Abstract

Alien fish are introduced to diversify farmed fish, ornamental fish, or disease vector controllers. Alien fish in aquatic generally becomes a threat for indegenous fish as competitors for food, space and as predators. This will affect fish structure populations and results in niche segregation (space utilization) to avoid competition. Niche segregation encourages certain fish to occupy niches spatial and temporal diferently. Niche segregation may also occur between O. mossambicus and O. niloticus in the Banjaran River. This research was done by using a survey method with the Purposive Random Sampling technique. Sampling was conducted at five selected stations along Banjaran River every two weeks from July until September 2018. Research variables were O. mossambicus and O. niloticus populations with parameters abundance, length and weight of fish The supporting variable was water quality with the physical parameters were temperature, brightness, and current and the chemical parameter were dissolved oxygen (DO) content, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and also potential hydrogen (pH). Data on fish population structure and niche segregation were analyzed descriptively. Correlation between physical-chemical aquatic factors and fish abundances were analyzed using PCA (Principal Component Analysis). The result showed that the O. mossambicus population was more than O. niloticus. The abundance of O. mossambicus in the five stations were different (p: 0.005), while the abundance of O. niloticus were relatively the similar (p: 0.184). There were differences in length distribution of O. mossambicus (p: 6.934E-09) and O. niloticus (6.174E-05) at five stations. The weight distribution of O. mossambicus at five stations was significantly different (p: 3.609E-09), and the weight distribution of O. niloticus (p: 6.631E-05) was also different. The temporal niche segregation between O. mossambicus and O. niloticus was recorded in stasiun 5. The abundances of O. mossambicus and O. niloticus were negatively correlated to the physical and chemical factors of the water quality of Banjaran River

Abstract

Manfish, Pterophyllum scalare merupakan ikan hias air tawar yang banyak diminati oleh masyarakat. Ikan manfish mempunyai pola warna yang baragam dan mempunyai ciri khas yaitu sirip dorsal dan sirip anal membentang sampai ke ekor. Ikan manfish yang diperdagangkan di sekitar Purwokerto terdiri atas beberapa strain, namun belum banyak informasi tentang jumlah strain serta karakter morfologinya. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui karakter pembeda antar ikan manfish yang terdapat di wilayah Purwokerto berdasarkan morfologi dan truss morfometrik. Metode yang digunakan adalah survey dengan teknik pengambilan sampel secara purposive random sampling pada pedagang ikan manfish yang terdapat di wilayah Purwokerto. Variabel yang diamati adalah karakter morfologi dan truss morfometrik. Parameter yang diukur adalah perbandingan rasio antara jarak truss dengan panjang standar. Data karakter morfologi dianalisis secara deskriptif. Karakter truss morfometrik dianalisis menggunakan Multiple Variance Anova untuk mengetahui karakter yang paling membedakan antar strain. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakter pembeda antar strain ikan manfish berdasarkan karakter morfologi terdapat pada warna tubuh, warna sirip dan bentuk caudal. Karakter pembeda berdasarkan truss morfometrik menggunakan analisis Multiple Variance Anova antar strain menunjukkan bahwa yang paling menonjol terdapat pada strain black yaitu bagian kepala lebih kecil serta jarak antara pertengahan batas kepala bagian ventral sampai pangkal belakang sirip ventral lebih kecil. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kemampuan zooteknik larva ikan gabus Sentani, dengan mengamati volume dan penyusutan kuning telur (yolk), perkembangan bukaan mulut, laju pertumbuhan spesifik, dan tingkat mortalitas larva, serta pakan yang cocok untuk ikan gabus Sentani pada stadia larva. Menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Perlakuan yang digunakan adalah pemberian pakan berupa (P1) kuning telur, (P2) tepung spirulina, (P3) biofloc, (P4) infusoria, (P5) Naupli Artemia, dan (P6) pakan buatan (pellet). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa 0 jam setelah menetas larva ikan Gabus Sentani memiliki volume kuning telur (yolk) sebesar 0,0444 mm³ . Penyusutan volume kuning telur (yolk) 24 jam setelah menetas menjadi 0,0133 mm³, dan 48 jam setelah  menetas menjadi 0,0043 mm³. Awal perkembangan bukaan mulut larva terjadi 24 jam setelah menetas dengan MH 45° dan MH 90° mencapai 0,13 mm dan 0,24 mm. Laju pertumbuhan spesifik menunjukan hasil terbaik pada perlakuan pakan menggunakan tepung spirulina yaitu laju pertumbuhan spesifik pada hari ke 6 mencapai 0,006 mm dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik pada hari ke 10 mencapai 0,019 mm, sedangkan pada perlakuan menggunakan kuning telur laju pertumbuhan spesifik pada hari ke 6 hanya mencapai 0,002 mm dan pada hari ke 12 mencapai 0,011 mm. Pemberian dengan 6 jenis pakan yang berbeda belum dapat menurunkan tingkat mortalitas larva ikan Gabus Sentani karena seluruh larva mati pada hari ke 13, namun larva yang diberi pakan tepung spirulina dapat hidup hingga hari ke 10 dan larva yang diberi  kuning telur dapat bertahan  hidup hingga hari ke 12. Jenis pakan tepung spirulina dan kuning telur memiliki kriteria yang paling sesuai sebagai pakan pada stadia larva.
