Abstract

The effectiveness of animal physiology practical book based on guided inquiry model is the essential factor to achievement student understanding a about animal physiology concepts. The purpose of this study was to observe the effectiveness of animal physiology practical book based on guided inquiry model in Padang State University. The variables measured were affective, cognitive, psychomotor, and students? activities. The data of this pre-experimental research were analyzed using averaged, percentage and standardized with Institutional assessment criteria. The results showed that the mean values were: 90.56 for affective competency (Criteria A), 82 for knowledge (Criteria A), and 89.66 for skills (Criteria A). Meanwhile, the percentage of student activities was 90.74% with very active category. It can be concluded that the effectiveness of practical book based on guided inquiry model was very effective to optimized student competences.

Abstract

Maninjau lake is the largest center for the freshwater floating-net-cage fisheries system in West Sumatra. Every year, during the up-welling season, a huge number of fish suffered to death in the lake including nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), a common species cultivated in the floating-net cages. This current study aimed to determine the factors contributing to the death of fish by measuring the concentration of toxic chemical substances in the blood plasm of nile tilapia as well as in the subtrate collected from the bottom of the lake. The samples were collected in the sites with higher number of floating-net cages as well as higher number of mass death of fish (Tanjung Sani, Pakan Raba’a dan Maninjau) during the up-welling season. The result revealed that the levels of phosphate, nitrate, nitrit, and amonium were higher in the blood plasm of the fish (87, 216, 13.9, 0.6, dan 5.5 mg/l). Moreover, the levels of those chemical substances were also higher in the substrate of the lake (82.150, 0.546, 33.166, 23.954 dan 0.0776 mg/l). The higher concentration of the toxic chemical substances might contribute to the mass death of fish living in the floating-net cages during the up-welling season.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat efek pencemaran perairan terhadap ikan melalui observasi preparat histologis insang ikan nila (Oreochormis niloticus L). Penelitian dilakukan pada Bulan Januari 2017. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif menggunakan metode observasi langsung terhadap struktur insang ikan nila. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah purposive sampling pada 3 lokasi di Danau Maninjau. Pembuatan preparat menggunakan metode paraffin dan pewarnaan Haematoxylin-Eosin di Laboratorium Balai Veteriner, Bukittinggi. Hasil pengamatan struktur histologi insang menunjukkan adanya perubahan struktur histologi berupa hipertropi, fusi lamella, kerusakan struktur lamella hingga hilangnya struktur lamella. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa efek pencemaran perairan dapat mengakibatkan perubahan terhadap struktur histologi insang ikan nila.

Abstract

This study aims to determine student's high-level thinking skills on the body's defense system topics. Type of research is descriptive qualitative with a population of students of all grade XII MIPA Mathematics and natural sciences totaling 195 people. The sample in this study was taken by the Random Sampling technique, amounting to 39 people. The type of data collection used is a written test consisting of 24 questions consisting of taxonomic levels C4, C5, and C6. Data of high-level thinking skills obtained from the critical thinking skills test by 34%, creative thinking by 52%, problem-solving 30% and decision making by 35%. The result of the ability to analyze by 44%, evaluate by 29% and create by 27%. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the ability to think of high-level students is categorized as not good.
