Abstract

This research aims to describe the improvement of students' vocabulary using audio-visual media. This research is a Classroom Action Research conducted in 1 cycle, consisting of 4 stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. With 21 students, the research findings show that in the post-test, only 7 students (33%) achieved the KKM score (75), while 10 students (48%) were below and 4 students got average grades KKM. In the pre-test, only 4 students (19%) did not achieve the KKM score, while 17 students (81%) exceeded the KKM score. The description of learning outcomes using audio-visual media shows that 81% of students are in the complete category, and only a few students did not pass in the pre-test (19%). However, in the post-test, 33% of students did not pass. This illustrates that learning with audio-visual media has been going well and can support the improvement of vocabulary from the learning outcomes of audio-visual media. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers prioritize the use of audio-visual media in teaching subjects.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the efficacy of using Self and Peer- Correction Technique in teaching writing especially descriptive text to Indonesian English as Foreign Language (EFL) students. The main question of this research: Is the use of Self and Peer- Correction Technique effective in teaching writing to Indonesian EFL students? The research can be an addition to the persisting teaching writing in English particularly the descriptive text through the use of guided questions. This research was conducted at the tenth-grade students at SMA Kristen Mercusuar Kupang, an Indonesian High School. The total number of samples was 25 students. The research used a pre-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. The pre-test was given to find out the basic ability of the students in mastering writing descriptive text and the post-test given to find out the students’ improvement in mastering writing descriptive text after giving the treatment by using Self and Peer- Correction Technique. The findings show that using Self and Peer- Correction Technique is effective in teaching writing descriptive text to Indonesian EFL students. It is supported by the result of the significance test through SPSS 20 program that the P was 0.00. Therefore, it is recommended to use the guided questions in developing students’ writing descriptive of Indonesian EFL students.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine student perception after using English video learning media. The research method is a quantitative research method. The researcher uses pretest posttest control experiment to measure the effectiveness of Video Learning Media, before learning activity was held, the researcher determines students’ entry skill by giving them a pretest, furthermore the learning activity was held with the experiment class have a learning video as media. After the class took a posttest to find out the English skill enhancement which determine by using T-test. The result of t-test shows that experiment class obtained higher scores which can be concluded that video learning media is effective. After the posttest the researcher collected data through questionnaire which given to 30 students of experiment at the tenth-grade students at SMA Kristen Mercusuar Kupang, an Indonesian High School. After calculated the acquisition value of the questionnaire, the researcher obtained an average value of perception questionnaire (93) and also obtained the majority of each questionnaire item has a positive respond from the student. This shows that the using of English video learning media obtained a very good perception by the student in the classroom which directly proportional with higher posttest result achieved by experiment class. This finding can be considered as reference for the next studies about a relation between motivation, learning outcomes and the using of English Video learning Media

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berupa kolaborasi antara tim pelaksana dengan kelompok Pelayanan Anak, Remaja dan Taruna di Kota Kupang dan Kabupaten Kupang yang tersebar dalam beberapa tempat. Selanjutnya, melalui kegiatan ini, diharapkan dapat menjadi salah satu kegiatan unggulan dan berkelanjutan melalui program Gembala Brilian (Pengembangan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi Guru dan Anak Sekolah Minggu) yang telah dilaksanakan sejak tahun 2018 sampai saat ini, yang diharapkan berdampak positif di masa datang baik bagi para pengajar sekolah minggu maupun anak-anak sekolah minggu yang juga merupakan siswa Sekolah Dasar dan Sekolah Menengah. Metode yang diterapkan diharapkan terus meningkatkan usaha anak-anak dalam proses pembelajaran secara kreatif dan menyenangkan di Sekolah Minggu. beberapa hal yang dianggap sebagai masalah prioritas yang harus selesaikan antara lain adalah: (1) Peningkatan kosakata Bahasa Inggris. (2) Pelafalan kosakata Bahasa Inggris. (3) Meningkatkan antusias dan motivasi belajar Bahasa Inggris bagi anak Sekolah Minggu. Solusi yang ditawarkan berupa pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang kreatif dengan mengembangkan konten komik digital mengenai tokoh-tokoh yang terdapat dalam Alkitab dengan tampilan yang menarik dan mudah dipahami anak dan remaja. Produk PkM berupa komik yang dipresentasikan dalam bentuk buku juga digital sehingga dapat diakses dengan mudah. Luaran yang ditargetkan adalah penerbitan artikel di Jurnal Nasional terakreditasi. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan merupakan salah satu peningkatan IPTEKs bagi tim pelaksana (dosen dan mahasiswa), juga Calon Vikaris dan Pengajar dari GMIT Imanuel Oepura Kupang. Hal-hal yang telah dicapai adalah sebagai berikut : pertama, diskusi dan penyamaan persepsi, kedua, penyaduran dan interpretasi konten komik digital, dan yang ketiga adalah pembuatan komik digital. Pada tahap akhir, diterbitkan pada Jurnal terakreditasi nasional.
