Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out whether: (1) Contextual Teaching Learning has better effect than conventional method towards students speaking skill; (2) the students having low anxiety have better speaking skill than those who have high anxiety; and (3) there is an interaction between CTL and anxiety towards students speaking skill. This research was experimental study within quantitative approach. The total samples of this study were 66 students of tour and travel class of SMKN 2 Mataram that consist of two classes that determined by cluster random sampling technique. The instruments that were used to collect the data were test and questionnaire. The data was analyzed by using multifactor analysis of variance 2x2 and tuckey test. The result of this research revealed that the level of students anxiety that taught by CTL is lower than conventional, while students? speaking skill score that taught by contextual method was higher than conventional method. The level of anxiety has significant effect toward students? speaking skill. Therefore, it can be concluded that: 1) Contextual Teaching Learning method has better effect than Convetional method towards students speaking skill of the tour and travel students? class of SMKN 2 Mataram; 2) The students who have low speaking anxiety have better speaking skill than those who have high speaking anxiety at the tour and travel students? class of SMKN 2 Mataram; 3) There is an interaction between CTL and students? anxiety towards students speaking skill of the tour and travel students? class of SMKN 2 Mataram.

Abstract

Reading is still considered as a difficult skill to be taught and learnt, some students have difficulties in comprehending the text and reading also regarded as passive activities instead of active activity. This Research is aimed to know the effect of collaborative strategies towards students' learning activities and reading comprehension. This research is quasi-experimental pre-test post-test design. The data were analyzed using paired samples, independent test and correlation.  The result proved that the experimental post-learning activities are higher than pre-activities (83.27 > 61.20) and ttest 16.434. The independent test also clarified that the experimental group performed greater learning activities t (5.322 > 2.000). In Reading, the experimental post-test mean score is higher than pre-test (59.44 > 47.41), and ttest (4.237 > 2.021). The independent samples test confirmed that the experimental group ttest is higher than ttable. (3.777 > 1.980). Meanwhile the correlation analysis proved that rtest is smaller than rtable (0.134 ?0.199) very low category. It can be concluded that collaborative strategies are effective towards students' learning activities and reading comprehension, although there is no correlation between learning activities and reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research was intended to analyze the effect of mind mapping towards students writing skill at the second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016. This study was quasi experimental research, where the sample was cluster randomly selected with the total number of sample was 65 students which were divided into 2 classes; 29 students were in the control group and there were 36 students belong to experimental group. In order to collect the research data, the writer used writing test to comprehend the students? ability in managing text based on mind mapping concept. After the data was obtained, then it was analyzed by applying descriptive statistical analysis and inferential analysis. Regarding to the data analysis it was found that the students? ability before treatment was 69.72 in the significant level 95%. On post-test data analysis, the students mean writing ability increased into 77.22. The inferential analysis or hypothesis testing also proved that the t-test was higher than t-table in the significant level 95% (? =0.05) and degree of freedom 63 (4.158 > 2.000) with ? value (sig.) 0.00 < 0.05. It was clearly claimed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which stated that mind-mapping was effective towards students writing at second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016 was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) that said main-mapping is not effective toward students writing at second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016 was rejected. Those data evidently proved that mind mapping was effective towards students writing especially at second semester students of FPBS IKIP Mataram in academic year 2015/2016.

Abstract

This research was aimed 1) To find the differences between students having high creativity and students having low creativity, 2) To identify the interaction between students’ creativity and 4x6 poster strategy in their writing mastery. The research was quasi experimental. In this research, represented factorial 2X2 Analysis of Variant (ANOVA) design. Next to that, this research deal with the third semester of English department program with the total number was 80 students in which it was assumed that they have not creative in writing. Next to that, the data collected by using verbal creativity test and questionnaire. The techniques of data analysis was used descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. In analyzing data of the research the researcher used t–test formula. Based on the analysis, it was gotten that t-test score was 2.58 with the degree of freedom (df) = 78 and t-table was 2.00 at the significant level =0.05 It means that the value of t-test was bigger than t-table. Alternative hypothesis is accepted (Ha) and Null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In conclusion, There is a significant effect of 4x6 poster strategies towards students' creativity  at FBMB UNDIKMA (10 pt).

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between the learning environment and students' motivation through qualitative analysis of interviews and focus groups. Key themes emerged highlighting the influence of various environmental aspects on motivation. Participants emphasized the importance of supportive teacher relationships, noting that teachers who demonstrate genuine interest and provide constructive feedback foster higher motivation levels. A positive classroom climate characterized by respect, collaboration, and inclusivity was also identified as crucial for engagement. Peer interactions, particularly through collaborative learning experiences, enhanced motivation by creating a sense of belonging and accountability. Additionally, access to diverse resources and learning tools was vital for maintaining motivation, with students expressing a desire for engaging materials. The physical characteristics of learning spaces, such as seating arrangements and lighting, significantly impacted motivation, with flexible and organized environments contributing to comfort and engagement. While many students appreciated technology's role in facilitating interactive learning, concerns about distractions underscored the need for balanced integration. Overall, the findings align with existing literature, offering new insights into factors influencing motivation across educational levels. The study underscores the necessity for educators to foster supportive relationships, promote a positive classroom climate, provide diverse resources, and thoughtfully integrate technology, ultimately enhancing student engagement and success. Future research should further explore these dynamics, particularly in the context of evolving educational practices and technological advancements.

Abstract

This study explores how social media contributes to second language acquisition (SLA), focusing on sixth-semester English education students at FBMB UNDIKMA. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research gathered data through surveys and interviews to understand how students interact with English-language content on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. The quantitative results showed a clear connection between how often students used social media and how much they felt their vocabulary and grammar had improved. Meanwhile, the qualitative findings painted a richer picture: students often picked up new vocabulary by accident, became more attuned to grammar use, and felt more motivated to engage with the language. These findings are consistent with well-established SLA theories, such as Krashen’s Input Hypothesis and Schmidt’s Noticing Hypothesis, which emphasize the value of exposure and awareness in language learning. Overall, the study suggests that social media, while informal, can effectively complement classroom learning—especially when teachers recognize and incorporate students’ existing digital habits into their teaching practices.
