Abstract

Caffeine is believed to improve a person's memory because a person can be awake and affect brain performance. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of caffeine on short-term memory. This study uses a posttest control group design where two groups will be given treatment, and one group will not be given treatment. The participants of this study were 30 college students (Mage equals 19.4; SD equals 1.27) in Jabodetabek who consumed caffeine at least three times a week. Data collection using a digit span test adapted from Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). The results showed that caffeine positively affected short-term memory in college students. Decaffeine has more effect on short-term memory than caffeine and mineral water. This research implies that college students can consume decaffeine to improve their short-term memory.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is one of the most common mental disorders and is increasing every year. One common type of schizophrenia is paranoid schizophrenia. Usually, a positive symptom that often appears in paranoid schizophrenia is auditory hallucinations. Furthermore, paranoid schizophrenia residual type is an end stage of schizophrenia disorder where the individual does not have positive symptoms but still experiences some negative symptoms. The method used in this research is qualitative namely case studies. This case study aims to describe the assessment, diagnosis, and psychological dynamics of individuals who have residual paranoid type schizophrenia. Participant is one person selected using purposive sampling. Data mining is done by conducting interviews, observations, and psychological tests. Interviews were conducted both to the subject and significant others. Observation and psychological tests conducted on the subject. Psychological tests provided include intelligence and personality tests. The results obtained that AS does not have positive symptoms. However, negative symptoms that are still felt are subject who has confusion, has difficulty in controlling emotions and does not want to work. In addition, the psychological dynamic of AS is he has experienced many traumatic events in his life, including: death from his family, repeated fraud, not getting appreciation from the environment and he who felt that his role as head of the family could not function properly.

Abstract

This research was conducted to reveal in depth the dynamics of parental burnout in housewives with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This research uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenology and interpretive paradigm. Participants in the research study were determined using purposive sampling techniques. There were two housewives with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and living in a nuclear family as research participants. The data collection method was carried out by means of through interviews using moderately scheduled and in-depth interviews, non-participant observation with narrative types, and documentation. The measuring tool in this research uses parental burnout theory according to Roskam et al. Then, researchers used thematic analysis techniques (Thematic Analysis) to identify, study, and report themes in the data. The research results showed that the two informants experienced parental burnout at different levels so the dynamics differed. Y with higher parental burnout showed pinching and hitting behavior towards children and clearly stated aspects of parental burnout, whereas YS only got angry and raised his voice and did not highlight aspects of parental burnout much.

Abstract

Women in middle adulthood will face changes in physical appearance. For some women, these changes can lead to negative perceptions towards their body, resulting in psychological issues. Self-compassion is known to be a protective factor against these negative perceptions. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether self-compassion predict body image in middle adulthood women. The participants in this study are 352 middle adulthood women. The measurement tools used were the Skala Welas Diri (SWD) and the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS). This quantitative research used convenience sampling as sampling technique and simple linear regression is utilized as a data processing technique to test hypotheses. The results found that self-compassion was proven to predict body image in middle adulthood women, accounting for 17.3%. The regression test results showed R²=0.173, F(1, 350)=72.969, p<0.001. This means that the higher the self-compassion, the more positive the body image in middle adulthood women.

Abstract

Volunteers are prone to experiencing stress due to the enormous workload they face. Stress on volunteers must be appropriately managed so that it does not impact daily life. This research was conducted to see the effectiveness of stress management training in reducing stress in the Berbagi Cerita Indonesia Community. This training uses a one-group pretest-posttest research design. Selection of participants using purposive sampling. There were nine participants involved in this study. Researchers developed a measuring tool to measure knowledge about stress, while the measuring tool for stress was calculated using the DASS (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale). The collected data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results show a significant difference between before and after the training. This explains that stress management training is practical in enhancing knowledge about stress for the Berbagi Cerita Indonesia Community volunteers.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was an effect of the dual-coding method on college students' long-term memory. This research is a type of quantitative research using posttest-only control group design experimental research methods and independent sample t-test analysis techniques. The participants used in this study were 32 students (16 students entered the control group and 16 students entered the experimental group). LTM is measured by displaying a concrete word display. The control group will be shown a display containing only words, while the experimental group will be shown a display containing images and words. Each word will be displayed for 30 seconds. Then, dual-coding was measured by showing two different types of displays of 10 concrete nouns. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups with t(30) = -1.212, p = 0.117 (p > 0.05), d = -0.429. These results also mean that there is no effect of the dual-coding method on university students' long-term memory due to several things. Keywords: dual-coding method, long-term memory, college students ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh metode dual-coding terhadap long-term memory mahasiswa. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode penelitian eksperimen posttest-only control group design serta teknik analisis independent sample t-test. Partisipan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 32 mahasiswa (16 mahasiswa masuk ke kelompok kontrol dan 16 mahasiswa masuk ke kelompok eksperimen). LTM diukur dengan menampilkan sebuah tampilan kata konkret. Pada kelompok kontrol akan diperlihatkan tayangan yang hanya berisi kata-kata, sedangkan pada kelompok eksperimen akan diperlihatkan tayangan yang berisi gambar dan kata. Masing-masing kata akan ditampilkan selama 30 detik. Kemudian, dual-coding diukur dengan memperlihatkan dua jenis tayangan yang berbeda berupa 10 kata benda konkret. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua kelompok dengan t(30) = -1,212, p = 0,117 (p > 0,05), d = -0,429. Hasil tersebut juga mengartikan bahwa tidak adanya pengaruh metode dual-coding terhadap long-term memory mahasiswa dikarenakan beberapa hal. Kata Kunci:  metode dual-coding, memori jangka panjang, mahasiswa

Abstract

Adequate and relaxed learning conditions will create an individual focus and concentration so as to create an effective learning or work process. One condition of optimizing individual cognitive processes as an effort to increase focus and attention is to involve aromatherapy as a scent that can help build a relaxing learning atmosphere. Lavender aromatherapy itself is known to provide anxiolytic effects as an anti-anxiety which can provide a calming effect and increase a person's cognitive performance. Therefore, this study aims to see if there are any differences between the experimental group that was exposed to lavender aromatherapy and the control group that was not exposed to aromatherapy before working on The d2 of Attention Test measuring instrument. This study used the true experimental research strategy method, with a randomized two-group post-test-only design. In addition, a non-probability sampling method (convenience sampling) was used to obtain easily accessible participant data. Participants were psychology students who do not have any olfactory issues. The testing was carried out using Independent Sample T-Test analysis technique for different tests. The experimental results revealed that there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group with a significant difference in the average score. This proves that lavender aromatherapy has an influence on an individual attentional function. Kondisi belajar yang baik dan nyaman akan membuat seseorang fokus dan berkonsentrasi sehingga terciptanya proses belajar ataupun bekerja yang efektif. Salah satu bentuk dari mengoptimalkan proses kognitif seseorang sebagai usaha untuk meningkatkan fokus dan atensi adalah dengan melibatkan aromaterapi sebagai aroma yang dapat membantu membangun suasana belajar yang nyaman. Aromaterapi lavender sendiri dikenal dapat memberikan efek ansiolitik sebagai anti cemas yang dapat memberikan efek tenang dan meningkatkan gairah kinerja kognitif seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat perbedaan pada kelompok eksperimen yang diberikan paparan aromaterapi lavender dan kelompok kontrol yang tidak diberikan paparan aromaterapi sebelum mengerjakan alat ukur The d2 of Attention Test. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode true experimental research strategy, dengan randomized two group design posttest-only. Selain itu, digunakan metode non-probability sampling (convience sampling) untuk mendapatkan data partisipan yang mudah dijangkau. Partisipan merupakan mahasiswa psikologi yang tidak memiliki masalah penciuman. Pengujian dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik analisis Independent Sample T-Test untuk uji beda. Hasil eksperimen menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol dengan perbedaan skor rata-rata yang signifikan. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa aromaterapi lavender memiliki pengaruh terhadap fungsi atensi seseorang.

Abstract

Most people with schizophrenia is highly dependent on the involvement of those closest to them, especially their families. Providing care for a long period of time can affect the caregiver's condition and potentially experience caregiver burden and decreased physical and mental health. The purpose of this study is to determine the significant negative effect of self-compassion on caregiver burden in schizophrenia caregivers. This study involved 373 schizophrenia caregiver subjects. The Zarit Burden Interview and the Self-Compassion Scale were employed in this study. The simple linear regression analysis indicated that there is a significant effect of self-compassion in reducing caregiver burden in schizophrenia caregivers. The higher the self-compassion, the lower the caregiver burden perceived by schizophrenia caregivers. These results allow for alternative interventions that consider cultural contexts, such as self-compassion training, based on the development of collective-value strategies, acceptance, and spirituality.
