Abstract

Abstract

The development of destination management and digital marketing skills aims to increase community income in Gayo Lues Regency through the tourism sector. The community's reliance on less effective traditional marketing methods and the underutilization of social media have highlighted the need for more efficient and impactful alternatives to promote local tourism destinations. This program is designed to educate local youth on the multiplier effect of tourism and train them in managing social media accounts and creating engaging promotional content using digital platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. The approach used in this community service activity combines the Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) methods. RRA enables quick and efficient data collection by involving the community, while PRA encourages active community participation in problem analysis and solution development. Hands-on training and intensive mentoring will be provided to ensure that participants are capable of effectively managing and utilizing social media to promote their tourism destinations. It is expected that this program will not only increase local income through the tourism sector but also help foster a more competitive and sustainable tourism ecosystem. The final stage of the program involves mentoring and evaluation to measure the success of the community service initiative

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the economic performance of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) on Sumatra Island, focusing on the Sei Mangkei SEZ, Galang Batang SEZ, Tanjung Kelayang SEZ, and Arun Lhokseumawe SEZ over the 2019–2023 period. The data are examined using a panel regression model with Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) as the dependent variable and two independent variables: investment and the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR). The estimation results show that investment has a positive and statistically significant effect on GRDP, indicating that it is the primary driver of economic growth in Sumatra’s SEZs. In contrast, the LFPR does not have a statistically significant effect on GRDP during the study period. These findings suggest that improving the investment climate and increasing realized investment are critical to strengthening SEZ economic performance. A limitation of this study is that it covers only four SEZs; future research should expand the sample to include additional SEZs and incorporate other relevant variables to provide a more representative assessment of SEZ development on Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of regional expansion on the Human Development Index (HDI) in North Sumatra Province in the regencies/cities resulting from the expansion in 2001-2008. The data used includes HDI, GRDP per capita, poverty rate, and open unemployment rate (TPT) from 2012 to 2023 for the expansion areas and parent areas using panel data analysis methods. The results show that GRDP per capita and OUR have a positive and significant effect on the HDI in the split-off and parent regions, while the poverty rate has a negative and significant effect on the HDI in both regions. The implication of this study is the importance of effective resource management, poverty and unemployment alleviation, and increased investment in the education and health sectors to maximize the positive impact of GRDP on human development in North Sumatra, especially in areas that have undergone expansion.
