Abstract

Cancer survivors’ population has continued to increase. However, survivorship remains challenging for most. Further development of new strategies to combat stress during survivorship was in demand. While religious-spiritual aspects were available as potential resources. A prospective study contributed 274 cancer survivors was conducted. Instruments included the Freiberg Mindfulness Inventory, Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Spiritual Well-Being, Perceived Stress Scale, and the Brief World Health Organization Quality of Life. Three-time points data were set, baseline, one month, and three months. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA. The results showed that the mean age of the 274 cancer survivors was 48.97 (11.85) years old with a survivorship period of 1.35 years. Series data obtained from three points measurements each variable were mindfulness 34.15, 33.12, and 40.41; spirituality 33.40, 30.87, and 32.56, stress 20.31, 21.56, and 19.48, and quality-of-life 61.49, 55.71, 63.84, respectively. In conclusion, cancer survivors experienced fluctuating levels of mindfulness and spirituality, stress, and quality of life for three months of observations. However, the natural improvement of mindfulness, spirituality, stress, and quality of life improved in month three.

Abstract

Communication is a critical component in providing safe and high-quality nursing care. Various adverse events that occur in hospitals are mostly caused by communication errors between health workers. This literature review aims to analyze a systematic comparison of the effectiveness of the SBAR and I-PASS communication methods. Literature search methodology includes major electronic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar with a publication time range of 2013-2023. A total of 1,008 articles were obtained from the initial search, after the screening process using the PRISMA flow diagram, 10 journals were obtained that met the criteria. Research results: Both SBAR and I-PASS methods were proven to be effective in increasing patient safety, with I-PASS showing slightly superior performance in reducing the risk of medical errors. Although both methods have a structural framework for information transfer, I-PASS shows better consistency and depth of information than SBAR. I-PASS shows superiority in handover process efficiency, with a more significant time reduction and increased communication completeness compared to SBAR. Conclusion: The I-PASS communication method is more recommended than SBAR in nursing handover practice because it has higher effectiveness in reducing the risk of medical errors and improving the quality of information transfer.

Abstract

Introduction: Low back pain (LBP) is a common complaint experienced by the elderly. LBP can occur due to a history of static work positions. One complementary therapy to address chronic pain is a combination of Swedish massage and acupressure. Massage therapy is well-known as a pain relief method in Banteran Village. With education on Swedish massage and acupressure for families with LBP clients, pain management can be carried out properly and independently. Purpose: The objective of this case study is to investigate the effect of a combination therapy of Swedish massage and acupressure on low back pain in the case of Mrs. R. Methods: This study used a single-subject study method, which focuses on observing and analyzing the changes felt by individuals after receiving a combination of Swedish massage and acupressure therapy. The intervention was performed 8 times, with a two-day interval between sessions. The researcher asked the client to rate their pain level on a pain scale and measured blood pressure before and after therapy. Discussion: The results of the combined Swedish massage and acupressure therapy on the elderly patient, Mrs. R, showed a reduction in pain scale after 8 sessions with a frequency of every other day. The pain level decreased from moderate to mild, and blood pressure was reduced by 23-11 mmHg systolic and 15-8 mmHg diastolic. The pain reduction was due to the release of endorphins, which help relax the body. However, the pain returned afterward due to excessive physical activity. This therapy can be performed independently by Mrs. R's family. Conclusion: There was a reduction in the pain scale of low back pain (LBP) experienced by the client before and after the combination therapy of Swedish massage and acupressure. The intervention can also be performed independently by the family. Keywords: acupressure, low back pain, Swedish massage

Abstract

Introduction: Defining spirituality as a separate concept from its relationship to religious aspects has created discourses among experts. Consequently, spiritual needs are commonly unidentified by nurses during their nursing assessment activity. Moreover, they tend to refer this problem to another professional. Purposes: This study aims to clarify the concept of spirituality in the health context and to identify clear operational definition. Methods: Eight-step Walker & Avant’s concept analysis approach was implemented. The eight steps of the approach are as follows: 1) selecting concept, 2) determining the aim of the analysis, 3) identifying all uses of the concept, 4) determining the defining attributes of the concept, 5) constructing a model case, 6) constructing additional cases, 7) identifying the antecedents and consequences of the concept, and 8) defining empirical referents. Selecting concept and determining aim of the analysis put in introduction. Conclusion: Concept spirituality exist and different from religiosity; however, it will be beneficial to measure both religiosity and spirituality in the same situation.
