Abstract

Ulee Lheue Beach is one of the marine tourism sites in Banda Aceh. Its appearance, apart from attracting visitors to enjoy the beauty of the shore, also has consequences for piles of garbage thrown carelessly by the visitors to the shoreline which has an impact on environmental damage. In addition, the visitors tend to heed the government’s appeal to strictly commit to health protocols such as social distancing, gathering prohibition, and wearing masks while they visit the tourism spots. Therefore, this community outreach sought to map the knowledge of the tourists about waste and its impact on tourism sites and its relation to the dangers of Covid-19. This service employed mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative). The survey results showed that the visitors have fairly good knowledge regarding the dangers of waste and Covid-19 yet still uninternalized in their daily attitudes. Thus, the service team provides education through leaflets and videos on Youtube channels, hoping that the visitors would have higher commitment towards the environmental hygiene and health protocols at tourist sites.

Abstract

Abstract

Development of drug delivery systems (DDS) has been widely carried out using safe biopolymers – starch and κ-carrageenan. However, for optimal use, the foregoing polymers still suffers from mechanical weakness. Combining both polymers could enhance the properties of each of the polymer. This research aimed of improving the applicability of starch and κ-carrageenan as DDS by means of polyelectrolyte complexation to form a polymer film. The composition ratio of starch:κ-carrageenan was optimized using response surface method (RSM) on Design Expert 11.0 based on water swelling, tensile strength, and disintegration time of the film. Fourier transform infrared spectrometry was performed on the prepared starch—κ-carrageenan film and suggested the successful film preparation. The bulk characteristics of the film are dependent on the starch or κ-carrageenan composition ratio, where starch has been associated with higher thickness, while κ-carrageenan — rigidity. From the RSM, the optimized composition was revealed to be 2.95 and 2.84 g for starch and κ-carrageenan, respectively, in a 60 mL aqueous solvent. The predicted optimum properties of the film were 160.21%, 3.26 MPa, and 17.47 min for swelling degree, tensile strength, and disintegration time, respectively. Taken altogether, the characteristics of starch or κ-carrageenan individually could be modified by polymeric combination, where they could be optimized by means of RSM.

Abstract

The utilization of natural compounds as therapeutic agents to treat pancreatic cancer has recently focused on natural drug research. Calotropis gigantea has long been believed to be a medicinal plant that helps in treating various diseases. The bioactive compounds 9-metoxipinoresinol and isoliquiritigenin isolated from C. gigantea leaves are proven to act as therapeutic agents by inhibiting the cancer cell growth of Panc-1 cells. This study aimed to screen the potential molecular inhibition mechanisms of 9-metoxipinoresinol and isoliquiritigenin against pancreatic cancer development in-silico. We analyzed the activity of the aforementioned two compounds as inhibitors of several proteins that play a role in the growth of pancreatic cancer cells, such as GCNT3, GOT1, c-Met, PPARγ, BUB1, and NF-κβ, through molecular docking investigation. Our data suggested that 9-metoxipinoresinol and isoliquiritigenin were able to have well interaction with the target proteins, in which the predicted affinity energy ranged between -6.8 and 8.7 kcal/mol. The docking scores of 9-metoxipinoresinol and isoliquiritigenin were higher than the standard drug used (gemcitabine). Based on the binding affinity energy, GCNT3 and BUB1 are potentially to be used as target molecules for cancer therapy using 9-metoxipinoresinol and isoliquiritigenin, respectively.

Abstract

Alue Naga Village in Banda Aceh City is a village that has a river and is directly adjacent to the sea, so this village has the potential to produce oysters. Oyster shell waste is usually dumped on the banks of the river, into the river, or thrown back into the oyster farm. This results in land and water pollution. This pollution can cause rivers to become shallow; if this continues, it can result in natural disasters such as floods. Therefore, Therefore, this service aims to provide education and training related to oyster shell waste into something more valuable. This activity also involved CV. Natural Aceh Food is a forum for the community to market its products. The production process required 5 minutes to grind 8 kilos of oyster shells and produce 7.7 kilos of oyster shell powder. Overall, the specific target achieved from this service activity is the packaged oyster shell powder to reduce oyster waste and empower the female oyster farmers in Alue Naga Village to earn additionalincome.

Abstract

Deah Raya is a coastal village rich in marine potential, particularly with the abundance of skipjack and tuna as the main raw material for the production of wooden fish or commonly referred to as keumamah. Several issues leading to insufficiently satisfying production process of keumamah including the fact that the villagers managed the business individually and the product was not well packaged. In addition, the waste from fish processing results in complaints from the neighbouring community. The aim of this services is knowledge and skill transfer related to the implementation of the economy circular as an alternative to overcome these problems. The results of this service activity are that two production groups have been formed from a total of 20 female participants who represent four hamlets in Deah Raya Village. The service team also provided education and conducted workshops related to the concepts of circular economy and how to manage waste from fish processing. After the workshop, the production groups managed the supply of raw materials to become more stable, mitigated production risks, and packaged the product in order to extend the product shelf life. They also started to process the waste into compost and are expected to sustain the efforts until it has commercial value and at the same time reduce the adverse impact on the environment.ABSTRAKDesa Deah Raya merupakan desa pesisir yang kaya akan potensi laut, terutama dengan melimpahnya ikan cakalang dan ikan tongkol sebagai bahan baku utama produksi ikan kayu atau yang lazim disebut dengan keumamah.
