Abstract

Introduction. This study explores factors influencing the effectiveness of digital archiving systems in Indonesian universities, aiming to improve search time, storage, and organization efficiency. Data Collection Method. Using a mixed sequential explanatory approach, data were collected from 168 university archivists through simple random sampling and 20 key informant interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using one-sample t-tests and PLS-SEM, while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. Results and Discussion. The results reveal that system design, archivist satisfaction, and self-efficacy significantly impact the effectiveness of digital archiving systems. However, training programs did not show a significant effect. Self-efficacy mediated the relationship between system design and user satisfaction on system effectiveness. Conclusion. The effectiveness of digital archiving in universities is influenced by system design and self-efficacy. Self-efficacy strengthens the impact of system design and user satisfaction, highlighting the importance of both technical and psychological factors in managing digital archives effectively.

Abstract

This study investigates the challenges and strategies associated with implementing web archiving across various institutions in Indonesia, including Universitas Terbuka, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Mataram, Universitas Diponegoro, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and several regional archival and library offices. Employing a mixed-method approach, the research combines quantitative data from a survey of 235 archivists and information professionals with qualitative insights gathered through interviews with institutional representatives. The findings revealed a limited familiarity with the concept and practice of web archiving among respondents, which hinders both interest and institutional readiness to adopt such practices. Contributing factors include gaps in digital literacy, inadequate training, and lack of institutional policy frameworks. To address these issues, the study recommends systematic efforts to improve digital competencies through targeted training programs and awareness campaigns. Enhanced understanding of web archiving is crucial for ensuring the long-term preservation of digital information, particularly in an era marked by rapid technological change and increased reliance on web-based content. The research underscores the need for collaborative strategies and policy integration to foster a sustainable web archiving culture across academic and government institutions in Indonesia.

The results of the study show that the competence of librarians influences the success of the library information literacy program, the availability of relevant programs, and the active participation of students. This study concludes the need for continuous training for librarians, designing programs that are responsive to the needs of students, and strengthening cooperation between libraries and faculties to increase the effectiveness and participation in information literacy programs in the academic environment. This research emphasizes that developing strategic and adaptive information literacy programs can improve students' information literacy skills, support academic achievement, and strengthen the role of libraries as learning centres in universities.
