Abstract

Koja bay leaves (Murraya koenigii) which mostly cultivated in Indonesia and the leaves usually used by Aceh people as a flavoring agent for food, has been known to have an antidiabetic effect.. In this study, we analyzed the antidiabetic effect of koja bay leaves tea bags which commercially available. Methods: The two variant doses of koja bay leaves tea bag (411.11 mg/g body weight and 822.22 mg/g body weight) were administered to 25 male rats which divided into five groups. The antidiabetic activity was determined by measuring blood glucose of rats administered by koja bay leaves tea bag compared to blood glucose of rats in positive control which was given glibenclamide negative control, and normal control. Results: The results showed that dose 1 and 2 decreased blood glucose level by 51.27% and 45.17%, respectively, fairly similar to the glibenclamide (63.38%). Conclusion: Koja bay leaves tea bag have comparable activity with glibenclamide in reducing the blood glucose level.

Abstract

Abstract

Curcumin has anti-inflammatory activities, and is formulated into the transethosome (TE) system to improve penetration. The TE system's stability can be increased by incorporating it into a gel dosage form. This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activities of curcumin TE gel. Curcumin TE gel was produced in 3 compositions, each having a curcumin content of 10 mg (F1), 40 mg (F2), or 160 mg (F3). On TE gels, organoleptic, viscosity, pH, particle size, and zeta potential were evaluated. The test animals were divided into five groups for anti-inflammatory activity testing. A 1% carrageenan solution was used to induce edema in the animals, and the volume of edema was measured for comparison with p0.05set as significant difference. Curcumin TE gel's physical properties showed a yellow and homogenous gel with viscosity values of 31.173 – 33.626 cPs, pH 4.75 – 4.84, particle size 208.3 – 319.4 nm, and zeta potential (-) 40.03 – (-) 51.12 mV. On anti-inflammatory tests, the edema volume in the group given curcumin TE gel decreased in the 270th minute. According to statistical analysis, the test group had a significant difference (p 0.05) from negative controls and no significant difference (p 0.05) from positive controls in F1 and F2 anti-inflammatory activity. According to these results, the curcumin TE gel exhibited anti-inflammatory activity equivalent to the positive control, while F3 had anti-inflammatory activity better than the positive control.

Abstract

The island of Kalimantan is where the native Indonesian plant known as ampelas originated. The twigs of this plant offer a variety of pharmacological properties, including the ability to treat fever, gout, and diabetes, according to scientific and empirical research. In order to assess the anti-inflammatory properties of ampelas twig ethyl acetate extract in the healing phase of open wounds, this study was conducted. A cream containing ethyl acetate extract of ampelas twigs at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6% was applied to the wounds of male Wistar strain white rats in five groups: group I was the negative control, group II was the positive control hydrocortisone 2.5 percent, and groups III, IV, and V were the test animal models. Until the fourteenth day, the rats' backs were shaved, wounds were formed to the dermis layer, and the wounds were treated and monitored for shrinking. ANOVA statistical analysis revealed that the proportion of open wound healing varied significantly between test groups. The Tukey test revealed that ampelas twig ethyl acetate extract at a concentration of 6% could heal wounds on par with the positive control. For all test groups, the best time to heal open wounds was on day 14.
