Abstract

Kemiri Sunan (Reutealis trisperma (Blanco) Airy Shaw) merupakan tanaman penghasil minyak non pangan yang dapat digunakan sebagai agen fitoremediasi. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui respon pertumbuhan, anatomi, dan akumulasi Pb Kemiri Sunan yang diinokulasi jamur Dark Septate Endophyte (DSE) terhadap tailing tambang emas. Bibit berumur dua bulan yang telah diinokulasi jamur DSE 0,5% dipindahkan ke dalam pot berisi tailing tambang emas dengan konsentrasi berbeda dan ditanam selama 7 minggu. Parameter yang diamati meliputi tinggi tanaman, berat kering pucuk dan akar, luas permukaan daun dan anatomi jaringan. Analisis histokimia dilakukan untuk mengamati Pb dalam jaringan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi tailing berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman dan parameter anatomi, tetapi tidak mempengaruhi berat kering tajuk dan akar maupun luas permukaan daun. Inokulasi DSE tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman, berat kering pucuk dan akar, luas daun, dan parameter anatomi. Pada akar, akumulasi timbal diamati pada sel epidermis, korteks, berkas pembuluh, dan empulur akar, sedangkan pada daun diamati pada sel epidermis atas dan bawah, daerah antara xilem, dan jaringan parenkim. Inokulasi jamur DSE meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan menurunkan toksisitas Pb pada Kemiri Sunan.

Abstract

Salinity stress disrupts redox homeostasis in plants, leading to notable changes in the levels of bioactive compounds. These compounds are recognized for their significant role in inhibiting the α-glucosidase enzyme, which is relevant in glycemic control. Detailed insights into how salinity stress modulates α-glucosidase inhibition in mulberry leaves remain scarce. This study aims to investigate the effects of salinity stress on α-glucosidase inhibitory activity in mulberry leaf extracts, and to identify accessions exhibiting the most potent inhibitory properties. In vitro assays were employed to conduct qualitative phytochemical analyses and to quantify total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and α-glucosidase enzyme activity. The results demonstrate that high salinity stress enhances the inhibitory activity of mulberry leaf extracts against the α-glucosidase enzyme. Notably, the MB2-3 sample exhibited the most favorable IC50 value (0.59 µg/mL), coupled with a substantial phenolic content (141.9 mg GAE/g extract) and the highest content of flavonoid observed among all tested samples (619.56 mg QE/g extract). Collectively, these findings highlight the capacity of salinity stress to augment both the inhibitory potential of mulberry extracts against α-glucosidase and the accumulation of phenolic and flavonoid compounds, with sample MB2-3 displaying auspicious attributes.

Abstract

Hyptis capitata Jacq. (common name: Knobweed or False Ironwort) belongs to Lamiaceae family and is among known traditional medicine. The Anak Dalam Tribe of Jambi Province uses the leaves of H. capitata to cure external and internal wounds. This study was aimed at identifying and analyzing secretory structure, histochemistry and phytochemical content of H. capitata leaves.  The results showed that H. capitata leaves have secretory structures in the form of peltate, capitate and uniseriate glandular trichomes on the upper and lower leaf surfaces, with idioblast cells scattered throughout the leaf mesophyll. Histochemical tests indicated that the peltate trichomes have four head cells, containing alkaloids and terpenoids. This study classified capitate trichomes into two types: 1. type I has one stalk cell and two head cells, all containing  alkaloids, terpenoids and lipophilic compounds; 2. type II has long stalk cells consisting of seven to ten cells with one head cell, all containing alkaloids and terpenoids. Uniseriate glandular trichomes of H. capitata leaves consist of four to eight cells containing alkaloids and terpenoids. The idioblast cells are round-shaped and contain lipophilic compounds. GC-MS analysis showed that H. capitata leaves  contain terpenoid compounds assumed to serve as anti-infective agents, including l-limonene, eugenol, farnesol isomers A, d-nerolidol, hexahydrofarnesol and neophytadiene.
